Rated 5 out of5 by fromGood FunctionsI have been using Windows 8.1 pro student version for a couple of weeks. I think it is much better than Windows 7. But I got some problem with the reinstallation at the beginning because it requires a large spare room of C:/. However, Windows 8.1 has been simplified a lot and become more convenient to use. Moreover, the price is lovely. Have a shot!

Rated 1 out of5 by fromBring back Windows 7Windows 8 is not logical. It is cumbersome and hard to find what you are looking for.Bring back Windows 7 layout.

Rated 3 out of5 by fromStart Menu and 'Widgets' WHY D:While I appreciate the fact that 8.1 has proven more stable than 7, and improves software features such as a faster start up and faster data handling, the changes to the GUI are atrocious, even after a few weeks to get adjusted. I've been frustrated by the 'app' system, which makes a simple thing like a calculator take up half my screen no matter what I do, which means its more of a hassle rather than an aide to use for my assignments. The start menu closing down the entire screen to show a menu system obviously better suited to a touch screen device is also heinous compared to the much better design of the 7 and previous start menu.If it wasn't for the fact that there was a massive discount for being a student, and hopefully access to Windows 10 (which I hope will not be a touch screen OS then pushed into desktop usage and patched to be 'ok'), I would be quite disappointed in having spent the money on this software, just for how much of a hassle these features have had to deal with, even with the trade off of the better under the hoodwork systems.
