Soo many banking apps, games for kids, general apps they have on the other 2 ARE MISSING here! I can't get ANY of my 5 banking apps.... or numerous other apps I wanted! I wish I would have known ... otherwise I never would have purchased this dumb 8.1!!! Dont waste your time getting it!

Rated 5 out of5 by fromWhat's all the moaning about?I bought this copy of Windows 8.1 (I already have 8.1 64bit on two other computers that I own - one being a Samsung tablet PC and the other a Toshiba Satellite C50-a...) to load onto an older WinXP Dell laptop I'd been given by an elderly gent who'd upgraded to a newer and better configured Toshiba laptop. He was having all sorts of problems with XP and didn't know how to fix them and despite my best efforts, he'd convinced himself upgrading was the better way to go... So, final analysis; I ended up with his old Dell machine with all of it's problems. I initially tried loading Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon on it, but (and despite what 'one' hears about how good Linux is - and it's not bad, given 'the price') Linux proved a absolute dog to install and it's constant requirement to 'log-on' and put in a password for so many actions that are a breeze when logged on as Administrator in Windows, gave me the willies enough that I bit the bullet and bought a copy of Win 8.1 64bit...I loaded it; I ran it. I networked it in a matter of seconds with my NAS, and the other Win 8.1 (and a Win 7 64bit desktop) machines in no time... I loaded my desktop theme from my Win 7 machine and loaded all the appz I wanted to load without finding (as I did in Linux) that certain features (such as Blu-ray support) were unavailable in appz that Windows runs without such limitations, or would just stop installing part of the way through the install without notification of why there was a failure to install - amongst other issues I noted with Linux..Yeah; sure Windows 8.1 ain't perfect, but who or what is? When I hear all the moaners carrying on as though Windows 8.1 is the worst thing since the dawn of time, I realise they're talking from a place of being sheeple... and I doubt very, very much that they're really as competent with digital technology as they like to make out they are... I've worked with all sorts of O.S.'s since the late 1980's; and I've got to say, that if Windows 8.1 was around back then, we'd have been more than blown away!!! We'd have thought it was proof that God existed!!!!If Windows 10 lives up to the promise that it seems it's 'critics' seem to say it holds - then Windows 10 will be THE OS to have regardless of the OS one is currently 'in love with', because if it's that much better than Windows 8.1; it'll be the O.S they use in Heaven!!!

Rated 4 out of5 by fromLoved the speed, but the layout ...NO!Great sped boost on seven, but the layout was more in keeping for tablet users and those pc user who have touch screens, I did love , it was a great boost to my system which was only just coping with seven, but now I'm using 10 the perfect blend of both 8.1 and 7!
