Ratings and reviews

Rated 5 out of5 by fromMakes My Work Easier! As an artist and graphic designer I use Windows and iMac, but the changes in Windows 8.1 pro now mean I can find literally terrabytes of data within seconds - the system is smooth and fast. I won't be going back to Windows 7 and I liked that. But the start screen with all my most important folders pinned to makes me want to work more! Superb navigation.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromWin 8.1 ProHas been a disaster on my computer the last 4 months. I believe updates have been the problem and there is no easy fix once the program fails to load. Win 8.1 Pro has cost me heaps of time and lost information 3 times in last 4 months. Should have stayed with XP.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromI bought it!!!Well I bit the Bullet and bought windows 8.1 Pro. I go back as far as DOS when Windows was a add on. I loaded my windows directly from the Microsoft account that everyone has to create, to my usb stick so I could do a fresh install. After I loaded windows for the first time I was confronted with a lot of large icons showing me what windows 8.1 is able to do, but with a brief study found an icon marked desktop when clicked teleported me to a familiar windows 7 look without the start icon. The start icon is now a square windowed looking icon and when clicked takes you back to the large icon interface but with only icons tailored to your system requirements. On that interface at the bottom their is an arrow icon pointing down, when clicked it takes you too the apps so you can add to your system. To return to the large icons the same arrow looking icon will take you back. An that's the tour. As for the general look it is a bit bland not a lot of pop, as widow frames are striped of fine detail a loss of 3d ish looks as to cut down on unnecessary performance steeling or to help with performance of smaller spec devices. With all new things their is a learning curve but windows 8.1 is not that much of a curve. an as for running slow if the computer spec is lower than Windows 8.1 requirements or the minimal spec then it will run slow. all windows shine when specs are above the requirements.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromJust Works!Got this on 1 pc, 2 laptops and a pair of tablets in our house.Seriously thinking of putting it on my gaming rig too.Sync across multiple devices is sweet.8.1 is very much like windows 7, but the security in the back-end is better(secure boot).I did prefer Win8, but I have gotten used to the changes I didn't like in 8.1 and the changes I do like are more numerous, so the trade-off is not too hard to bear

Rated 1 out of5 by fromStart Screen doesn't work for Non touchscrren userWhen I was using Windows 8.1 the start screen just isn't suited for non touch screen users and makes it difficult to get around. At least Windows 10 is on it way try it today. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-iso
