Ratings and reviews

Rated 5 out of5 by fromBrilliant Productivity, Surprising Performance.I bought this Device to replace my gaming desktop, I had some doubts as to its ability to play games and run software. As a student I needed both these aspects for both play and study. The i7 model I purchased has been a great surprise, not only did I notice no real decrease in the tablets speed but found it could also run software and even play games (on lower settings). The One note and pen integration is very useful and I use it often. The new keyboard is great to type with and with the friction stand, able to be used in a public environment. My only complaint is the track pad, its often sluggish to respond and I would like to see a new keyboard model come out where this is fixed.Over all this is a great buy, If you're looking for a mobile device that still pack a punch look no further.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromGreat! Power of Laptop with Tablet featuresHi! loving my device, if the Touch cover was included and I didn't already have a small issue with part of the screen not working i'd give it 5 stars!Just carried this all over Europe in my camera bag running lighroom and taking the micro SD card was awesome. I really like the Pen! found using it more than the mouse. Thanks for pushing the edge with these devices can't wait to see what you do with the surface4.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromProductivity plusFantasticly portable and light desktop computer with full tablet functionality. Docking station is essential to run the SP3 as a main desktop - I don't find a need for the additional keyboard as I can make do with the soft keyboard in meetings. The Surface Pen and OneNote are a perfect companion for handwritten notes and this has been once of the major benefits of this form factor.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromGreat versatilityGreat product which I have been using in many different scenarios including as a ultrabook (primary), as a note taking tablet with the surface pen and as a desktop replacement using an external monitor. Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of5 by fromAmazing bit of technologyBought the Surface Pro 3 i7 256gb variant on Thursday and I am more than impressed. I've never been a fan of laptops and wasn't happy with the limited use of a tablet. This has just ticked all the boxes for me. It's quick, survived a 7.5hr TV series marathon on battery and comes in very handy at work with all its stylus capabilities. The only thing which I think could use improvement is the apps in the Microsoft store, they leave a lot to be desired.Other than that so far perfect :)

Rated 5 out of5 by fromExactly what I needed a work & play travel deviceI like the keyboard and find it to be a really good device for typing on. I got the i5 256 GB model and this device will replace my 13" laptop. The track pad is good size and I find it to have the right level of responsiveness - although I now find that I prefer touching the screen instead of going for the mouse pointer. Old habits will take a time to shake off!The tablet is nicely balanced so that I feel comfortable picking up the Surface from any edge. This is different to a laptop where one always needed to be careful which corner to pick the device up from, as a laptop can be unbalanced based on internal battery location.Front mount speakers are a great innovation. It means that I get to hear more of my music rather than the people around me - which is what I have experienced with pretty much every other tablet style device where the speakers are on the edge of it. To be fair though, mostly I would use a set of headphones. A reasonable set of headphones are going to sounds heaps better than any inbuilt speakers ever will. The stylus pen I have used only a little since purchasing. It is amazingly easy to use with OneNote and I'm looking forward to going a little bit more "paperless" in my work habits by using the stylus to take notes and mark-up documents. The palm rejection worked well and I could rest my hand on the surface without getting spurious lines. The built in kick stand is great and a real innovation. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to use the Surface on my knee like I had with my previous laptop. I can - it works a treat. Because the kick stand adjusts through such a large angle it is possible to get the right angle when using it on the knee. I couldn't place the Surface as far back on my knee as my old laptop but the rows of keys were only about 5 cm closer when I compared the two. That is with the old laptop pretty much as far back on the knees as it would go with the screen leaning right out - a bit of a precarious position. In my comparison, the back hinge of the Surface was about 5 cm from the edge of my knee in a stable position. The added bonus feature is that since this device is classified as a tablet I can keep it in the bag as I go through the airport security scanners - which I do a lot of each year when travelling.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromtime to say good bye to laptops! This tablet/ laptop hybrid is amazing. I've been using it for around 3 weeks now - it's so beautiful. I bought a mini display port to HDMI cable, connected into T.V. and I didn't even have to do anything - surface pro 3 and my tv somehow worked together and transferred my display to TV. It was the most well defined automated process I've ever seen. The tablet itself is absolutely at its best. It's light, crystal clear and you can carry it around with you any time. Some people argue that it is a little bit heavier than a tablet. Yes it is, but for 12 inch display, and running full Windows 8.1 operating system - this is the sort of tablet I needed. I got a Galaxy note 3 for apps and general use, I don't need my tablet to do general use of activities since Galaxy note 3 takes care of this. The laptop (when you attach the touch cover) is also great, the keyboard is an engineering master piece. I actually enjoy typing on Surface pro 3.Now why do I give 4/5? it's because of the touch pad which is used for cursor navigation. I use my surface a lot, especially in writing documents. The palm detection isn't as great as I expected - every now and then it randomly navigates accordingly to my palm movement. It can get very annoying at times. To avoid this, I turn off my touch pad in my settings - considering the money you are paying, you shouldn't be doing this. I strongly suggest you buy a mouse that goes well with this surface, or master your navigating skills with your fingers (since it is a touch screen) to avoid this.Overall, an excellent device. I would recommend this device to anyone. Well done Microsoft!
