Ratings and reviews

Rated 4 out of5 by fromExcellent except for 100Mbit networkThese docking stations are wonderful and work well. I have one at work and one at home. I wish they had more than the 1 mini-DisplayPort for video output; you need to have the latest version of DisplayPort-compatible monitor *and* the Surface Pro 2 in order to run 2 external monitors chained together, as "discrete" displays instead of 1 resolution across 2 monitors. But with USB 3.0, lots of USB 2.0 ports, and quality construction I'm quite satisfied. I was disappointed to find out that instead of Gigabit network it only has a 100Mbit connection. That's very odd being this is a modern device. I hope they change this in the future because we market these, combined with a Surface Pro 2, as a full desktop replacement.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromExcellent!I bought this for use with my Surface Pro 2 so I could streamline the process as using my Surface as a desktop replacement, and I couldn't be happier! It looks great, offers plenty of ports (3 USB 2.0, 1 USB 3.0, mini display, audio in and out and Ethernet), and offers a great way to charge my Surface without fiddling with the charging cable included with Surface. It really cleaned up my desk and offers way more functionality than just a desktop PC because I can take Surface out of the dock and still have all of the power I need when I'm out and about. The $199.99 price point may seem a bit steep, but in my opinion, it is completely justified given how well the dock works. The mechanism that the dock uses for connecting to Surface is just magical - simply pull out the fins, place your Surface inside the dock and then close the fins. It's super simple, yet very powerful. The mechanism feels premium and offers just the right amount of resistance. And of course, everything 'just works' when you connect Surface to it. No fuss whatsoever. This is a must buy for anyone who is ready to take the next step with Surface as a desktop replacement and as a tablet, all in one device. Truly a great product.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromHuge conveniencePicked this up as soon as it came out to use with my Surface Pro. It really simplifies my life as far as being able to use the Pro as a desktop and an on-the-go device. And the mechanism for connection is clever. Slide the sides in to lock, slide apart to undock. Leaves the bottom edge of the Surface open, so presumably a Type or Touch cover could be connected at the same time. I say "presumably" because I don't have either yet - waiting (impatiently) for a Power Cover!

Rated 1 out of5 by fromProduct failed unfortunatelyI purchased the surface pro docking station. It failed and was replaced during the warranty period. It later proved to be unreliable. I liked it a lot when it worked :(Ontario Lawyer

Rated 5 out of5 by fromGreat dockCould use one more USB 3.0 port and maybe a direct HDMI output but it is still a great dock, it does make a nice 'home' for the tablet!

Rated 3 out of5 by fromLacking product maturityReally like the Surface - The dock is lacking product maturity - Two complaints: LAN Port is not gigabit capable & if you use all of the USB ports, the device will require a power recycle ever now then to reactivate the LAN port
