Overview

Campus legend

From keeping you organised to helping you take insane notes, the versatile Surface Pro 3 makes life at school a breeze. With a 12-inch Full HD touchscreen and the versatility to be used either as a laptop or tablet, it's the perfect device for schoolwork and play. Plus, it's super-slim and feather-light—only 0.63 inches thin and 800 gs — so it won't slow you down when you're on the go.

Note-worthy

Taking notes has never been this easy. Or fun. Type notes just like you would on a laptop, or handwrite them as naturally as you would on paper with the included pressure-sensitive Surface Pen. With a keyboard that folds back, Surface was designed to feel like a notebook in your hand. Use OneNote as your digital notebook and easily share your notes with classmates. You can even record lectures with the rear-facing 5MP camera while you type on the split screen.

Up all night

With up to 9 hours of battery life, Surface Pro 3 stays charged for those all-night cram sessions. You might be wired, but it doesn't have to be. It's also great for those jam-packed days of back-to-back classes when you don't have time to plug in. And when it's time for some entertainment, you'll have plenty of juice for cranking tunes and playing games for hours on end.

Unleash your creativity

Make it your mobile drawing studio. Use it to create movies. Design the next architectural masterpiece. Highlight PDFs directly on screen with the Drawboard app from the Windows Store. It's got the muscle to run heavy-duty creative programs like AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Cloud, and many more. If you can dream it, you can build it with Surface Pro 3.

All work? No way.

Have an hour free between classes? Entertain yourself with apps from the Windows Store. There are thousands to choose from. Surface Pro 3 is also great for playing games, streaming TV shows and movies, and Skyping with family and friends back home.

Ratings and Reviews

Rated 5 out of5 by fromWowHaving purchased the Surface RT then Pro 2 I was surprised to see the Pro 3 come out so quickly and also disappointed with the lack of accessories released specifically the dock for the 2, well the Pro 3 has just blown me away with the vast improvement. Great size and weight, so powerful and for the few games I play they scream along now. The dock is available and again is a vast improvement, if you use your Surface for work and play and it is perfect for that a dock is essential. All in all this device shines and I love it. It will be hard to top this but Microsoft will as Surface is the reference device for tomorrows computing needs.

Rated 3 out of5 by fromPleased, but Windows 8.1 needs to be far slickerHaving moved from an iPad to a Surface with docking station, I am delighted to be able to use the same device as a desktop PC and a tablet, and to be able to run Windows applications on the move. What stands out a mile though is very poor treatment of screen font size and pinch zooming. My desk screen is the usual 24+ inches, so I need natural screen resolution and font sizes on that, simultaneously with a magnified view on the Surface. There are many examples of apps which look either ridiculously huge on the large auxiliary screen or too small on the Surface screen. For example, a major step back in usability from the iPad is the Windows 8.1 terminal server client app, which doesn't support pinch zooming.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromCrosses boundaries effortlesslyl am both a full time worker and part time student, and I can tell you that I am completely satisfied with the technology, the portability, the convenience and practicality of this device. I am a heavy writer. Hype, I write long hand, I read. While my old Asus EP 11 served well, it was just too heavy. Rest assured, this is a buy you will not regret. My I7 does not overheat, have only heard the fan once during a firmware upgrade. The screen is clear, images pop out at you. The keyboard (should be bundled) is a treat and the scratch pad is 2nd to none.-- a very happy, very satisfied customer.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromSome nice design points but overpricedFar too expensive for what it is, especially when you get stung a lot for the keyboard cover (not great quality). I've applied all updates (have the i5 version) and it still gets uncomfortably hot under prolonged use - 5 minutes watching video is enough to get the fan going and the back to become very warm. I've also had the pen fail a few times (need to pop the batteries out and back in). Used to have unexpected shutdowns but that seems to have gone with recent updates. It packs a lot in a small system but I think we need to wait for the next iteration with the better CPU's that generate less heat (and Windows 10 and its supposed improvements may help the experience).

Rated 4 out of5 by fromSteep Learning CurveI bought 2 Surface Pro 3 tablets, one for my wife and one as a laptop replacement for me. Going from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 and Office 365 presents some challenges, some things are difficult to access with the keyboard attached (for example the ellipsis at the bottom of the screen when you have a browser window open) and I've had all sorts of difficulty attaching an external USB DVD drive to load some software. In general we both like the devices, good clear screen, good combination of touch, keyboard and pen but still learning how to use them effectively

Rated 4 out of5 by fromHand writing recognition and onenote - Its awesomeI bought the surface for this one feature alone - good memories of the Courier and its potential 10 years ago!I now have the ability to take notes in a meeting (and not look like a rude typing goose), convert those from ink to text, and email / share them to relevant parties. The ability to find those notes for customers months later has been a life saver!I must say, the first two surfaces were pretty average in terms of price vs. performance, but the 3 pro has been pretty good. The only gripe i have is that the pen is a bit flaky, about once a day i need to take the back off the pen to 'reboot' it (hang over from the windows 95 days?)all in all, recommend it! love it!

Rated 4 out of5 by fromTurns a Mac User's Head...I've spent most of the last six years using Macs...but this is the first time in ages I've absolutely LOVED a Microsoft/Windows computer. First off, I love the Surface Pen, both for taking notes in OneNote and for drawing. Best digital ink experience I've had. The screen is lovely...especially for watching YouTube. I'm finding the Type Cover and the upraised, magneted position quite a good experience. I really can't fault this device...and that's a Mac user saying that. Heresy...

Rated 1 out of5 by fromBugs are everywhereI purchased the 512gb i7 SP3, and i am fairly disappointed in it. The battery life is mediocre and it often overheats. I am noticing the "paint" is coming off (especially near the power jack - even though i bought the dock). Sometimes the touchscreen stops working (others have the same problem but they are on dells, so it might be a windows issue) and this morning my keyboard stopped working (eventually it worked again after a few restarts). I have lost plenty of school work by it randomly crashing/freezing during class. I suppose it is a good excuse for not doing homework :D. Frankly i wish i could recommend this product to anyone, but the problems just make it a pretty bad experience. And why is there only BALANCED in the power options? I had to install Hyper V (i dont know what that has to do with power settings) so i could get POWER SAVER mode so i wouldn't run low on battery during class. And why is the keyboard not full size, looking at the new Macbook and other PCs, it could have been easily done. It is horrible to type on. Also my kickstand is wobbly and loose, it shakes around all the time and i feel like it is broken.
