Slim, eye-catching, lightweight—the HP Folio 13 has many of the key qualities that define an ultraportable PC. But what you won’t find in most is the generous selection of ports the Folio offers, including an Ethernet jack and a full-sized HDMI port, the two of which rarely appear together on an ultrabook. Other ports include USB 3.0 that gives you data transfer and download times 10 times faster than USB 2.0, and the convenience of a combo headphone/microphone port.

The Folio is HP’s inital entry in the ultrabook market, and looks-wise it makes a solid first impression. Its elegant, brushed metal lid and smooth metal surfaces extend seamlessly to the keyboard deck and palm rest, while a soft, rubbery finish on the underside makes for a comfortable grip for carrying in one hand. That’s pretty easy to do too, thanks to the Folio’s slim profile of 0.7 inches and 3.3 pounds.

Overall system performance gets a big lift from a 128 GB solid state drive, which far outperforms standard hard-drive technology by giving you lightning-fast bootup, shut down, and sleep-resume times. On the entertainment front, the Folio comes with room-filling Dolby Advanced Audio that pumps up the built-in speakers with crisp and immersive surround sound. Elsewhere, battery life gives you up to nine hours away from the outlet, and a full-sized, well-spaced keyboard makes for a comfortable typing experience. It’s also backlit to keep you going long after the lights are out.
