Rated 5 out of5 by fromA couple installation bumps, but a wonderful game.Out of the box, FSX provides a wonderful flight simulator. The player is immersed into a fully detailed functioning aircraft in an environment that simulates the real world as good as you could hope. Real highways, real buildings, real weather, real planes.I did have two issues installing the software, the first disc was corrupted. I returned it and purchased another. The second installation would not activate due to issues with Microsoft's licensing server. The activation issue was a problem with the licensing server itself, it required a Microsoft technician to finally resolve the problem. There are a couple service packs that MUST be downloaded to work on any modern copy of the Windows O/S. I'm running Windows 7, so the software must be run in XP compatibility mode. The tutorial missions help get you started, the FSX community provides great information for enhancing and optimizing the experience. The default resolution is set pretty low and unimpressive by today's standards. However, increasing settings to the maximum provides a much better experience that most modern CPU's should be able to handle. The software still supports a keyboard-only game experience and that's still a good way to control myriad of features inside an airplane. A standard mouse improves fine/coarse control. I'm sure with a joystick, it might be even better. There are a couple situations where I've managed to crash the software. But it was typically at the end of a very long simulation -- so it doesn't bother me much.I noticed the software has been distributed through STEAM recently. This should resolve many of the installation problems I experienced.Beyond this, there are many dedicated FSX enthusiasts that have developed add-ons that include new aircraft, weather, and scenery. So, why 5 stars? I'm just biased. I started playing this game on an Apple //c, and some of the earlier Microsoft releases on DOS. I thought I'd check it out again to see how technology has advanced. I am impressed with how far it has come to providing a real-world experience and it just keeps getting better.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromThe Flight Simulator X is not install-ableI just bought my second Flight Simulatory copy from the Fry's Electronics. I thought the first copy that I had it was old and I might need a new key for it to function, but I waqs wrong. The Flight Simulator is not operatable and I couldn't even install it on my system. What a sham!!!
