Additional System Requirements

Some functionality may vary, based on the system configuration. Some features may require additional or advanced hardware or server connectivity.

Microsoft account required.

Note:   System requirements are rounded up to the nearest 0.5GB, to be conservative. For example, if we measure an application’s required hard disk space to be 1.99GB, we recommend 2.5GB of disk space. Our hard disk system requirements are intentionally larger than the actual disk space usage of the software.

A graphics processor helps increase the performance of certain features, such as drawing tables in Excel 2013 or transitions, animations, and video integration in PowerPoint 2013. Use of a graphics processor with Office 2013 requires a Microsoft DirectX 10-compliant graphics processor that has 64MB of video memory. These processors were widely available in 2007. Most computers that are available today include a graphics processor that meets or exceeds this standard. However, if you or your users do not have a graphics processor, you can still run Office 2013.

FAQ

How do I know if my computer or device can run the new Office?

You can install Office on PCs or Windows tablets running Windows 7 or higher, Macs with Mac OS X 10.6 or higher, iPads running iOS 7.0 or higher, and on Android tablets running KitKat 4.4.

Is Internet access required for Office?

Internet access is required to install and activate all the latest releases of Office suites and all Office 365 subscription plans. For subscription versions of Office including Office 365 Home you will need to go online to manage your subscription account, for example to install Office on other machines, or to change billing options. You will also need to connect to the Internet regularly to keep your version of Office up-to-date and benefit from automatic upgrades. Internet connectivity is also required to access the Office 365 cloud services such as OneDrive.

Can I install the new Office on my Mac?

The applications available for Mac users and the version numbers may be different from those available for PC users. If you have an active Office 365 Home or Office 365 University subscription, and available installs, you can install Office on your Mac, which includes the Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook applications. The OneNote, Publisher, and Access applications are not available for Mac. Current Office application versions for Office 365 are Office 2013 for Windows and Office 2011 for Mac. Customers with an active subscription will be entitled to the newest versions when available.

What are Skype minutes?

You can use Skype minutes to call friends or family with or without a Skype account on their mobile phone or landline. Just dial from Skype and your friends and family can pick up on their phone. Each active Office 365 Home, Personal and University subscription is entitled to 60 minutes of Skype minutes per month, which can be used to make Skype calls to phones in over 60 countries /regions.  Office 365 Home subscribers can share a subscription with up to four members of their household, and each person will get 60 Skype minutes per month. Your Skype minutes will be applied to a new or existing Skype account. Each month you will receive 60 Skype minutes.  Your Skype allowance resets each month. Special, premium and non-geographic numbers cannot be called using Skype. Calls to mobiles are for select countries only. Skype minutes available in select countries.

How much OneDrive storage do customers get?

Customers with an active Office 365 Home subscription receive an additional 1TB of OneDrive storage. They can share their subscription benefits with up to four members of their household, and each member who is added to the existing subscription also receives an additional 1TB OneDrive storage. This additional storage is not available during trial periods. This additional 1TB of OneDrive storage is applied to the OneDrive accounts that are linked to the Microsoft account used to create the Office 365 subscription account and any other account (up to four) that the subscription purchaser decides to share their subscription benefits with.

Can people with another Office version open documents I create with Office 365 Home?

Yes, a person with a previous version of Microsoft Office can easily open documents created with Office 365 Home applications. Office 2007, Office 2010, Office 365, or Office 2013 users can open documents created using the latest release of Office applications without any additional action. Customers using earlier versions of Office may need to download and install a compatibility pack.

Ratings and reviews

Rated 2 out of5 by fromGreat except UIIt's Office. What can you say other than it is light years head of the competition in features. That said, the new bright chrome-less UI is very hard on the eyes. My eyes feel far more fatigued after a day in Outlook and Excel 2013 than in 2010 or 2007. Additionally, it has no window borders so it sort of floats unencapsulated around your Windows desktop, making it difficult to tell if it's the activated Window or not. If you multitask a lot, it's really annoying. I wish Office would follow the Windows usability guidelines and stop reinventing the UI wheel. Windows' standard window borders, controls, titles are there for a reason. Use them.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromNOT a Happy Customer...have many concernsCall me "old school" but I would much rather pay for the program once and get some updates till a new one comes out. I don't need another monthly bill or another subscription renewal out of my checking account or/credit card. Plus there are bugs in this one...don't like nag pop ups for signing in, renewing, etc... So hate this new "cloud" mentality. I liked things physically on my backup hard drive. Not even sure this is so good for business either, as I think it makes us more vulnerable to attacks on the cloud and our systems. New isn't always better. This may work in a "perfect world" but we all know this world is so far from perfect it boggles the mind....

Rated 1 out of5 by fromAnnoyingly invasiveI tried out the 365 thinking I could switch back if I wanted to but after it installed itself it completely took over my Outlook and I couldn't get my old Outlook back. It is still on my computer but it won't function. So after trying for days to get rid of 365 and go back to my previous setup I had to pay for another month just to get my email working again. I tried again the next month but still couldn't restore my old Outlook. The new version of Outlook lost all of my notes about people and businesses that I had stored in Contacts like prescription numbers and account numbers... just gone! I would love to get rid of it so I don't have to keep paying $9.95 every month.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromMicrosoft Office 365 and OnedriveI have been using office 2010 and saving to Microsoft's Skydrive [now Onedrive] for years and I loved the concept, but it had quirks: like not saving my file after I made changes and clicked to close. All of that seems behind us now. I have been using the new combination of Onedrive and Office 365 for several months and it is much faster downloading and uploading, along with being much simpler to access, and I haven't had a single case of a file closing without asking me if I want to save. The yearly subscription is a big plus in that you can use it on 5 computers and that is the number I have so it is a genuine cost saving on top of the fine functionality

Rated 4 out of5 by fromAwesomeI have been an Office 365 Home edition subscriber for several months now and I'm very impressed with it.It runs on my Windows 7 PCs & my Android phone (v4.4.4). The cloud storage is extremely convenient. Having my documents available across the different platforms and maintaining their original layouts is a huge plus.I'm a heavy "Access" user and my one wish is that "Access" was available for the Windows RT 8.1 tablet I have. It will connect to a shared "Access" database from one of my other Windows 7 machines, but you can't create or edit any of the database code.I would have rated 5 stars if "Access" was available to my Windows RT tablet..

Rated 4 out of5 by fromExcellent collection of Apps, but with one problemI got Office Premium 365 for Mac for various reasons, but was a little  annoyed at one of  the portrayals of Office 365 for mac on the Microsoft store site. It shows the icons for  all applications in it : Word Excel, Outlook, Publisher, Access, etc. However, a few of the apps have little numbers next to them. For Publisher and Access it has a 2, which means it is not available for Mac. Why bother having publisher and Access icons? It is sort of misleading. The luckily i don't need those, but the value for the money dropped a lot.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromNeed to log in most of the timesI have office 365, I like it and when there is internet access it works great, BUT it keeps me asking to log in most of the times, and I need internet access for it to work. When I do not have internet access to validate my account simply office does not work, and it is a great problem for me

Rated 5 out of5 by fromBEAUTIFULGood subscription, So far put it on all 4 of our tablets (Windows), It was already on all of our phones (Windows). Put on wife's iPhone 5 (Thank God I love her ever so much). You can use it off-line and on-line. During installation it will ask you if you want it on the device storage. Simply awesome, other good thing is I don't have to worry about updates or new versions, when we discard a PC or Tablet that it is on, we do not need to un-install it, I just remove its entry on my office account manager. I tell you, this is sweet.
