Overview

Turn your Surface Pro 3 into a premium laptop
With improved stability to work well on your lap, Surface Pro Type Cover turns your Surface Pro 3 into a first-class laptop. It's enhanced with magnetic stability to keep the Cover steady.

Colorful, backlit mechanical keyboard
Boasting one of the thinnest mechanical keyboard available, Surface Pro Type Cover has the speed and functionality of a classic laptop keyboard. It's also backlit so you can continue working after the lights go out. Easy attach and disconnect lets you set up and get going right away.

Function keys, media controls, and touchpad
Surface Pro Type Cover features a QWERTY keyboard, a full row of Function keys (F1-F12), Windows shortcut keys, and media controls, so you can navigate expertly. An ultra-thin touchpad lets you control the cursor with your fingertip.

Doubles as a protective cover
Fold Surface Pro Type Cover back like a magazine for a tablet experience with Surface Pro 3. Surface Pro Type Cover keys are disabled when the cover is flipped back to avoid inadvertent typing. When you close Surface Pro Type Cover, the display shuts down, which helps protect the screen from bumps and scratches.

Ratings and reviews

Rated 5 out of5 by fromNice upgradeGot the new touch keyboard when I got my new Surface Pro 3. Really like the new feature of being able to incline the keyboard. Very comfortable. And, finally, there is a place for the Surface pen. Very satisfied. MS got it right

Rated 4 out of5 by fromMakes the tablet more usableThe feel of this keyboard takes some getting use to - it feels slight and like it won't hold up and makes a clicky noise during use.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromSurface Pro type cover VS. Surface type cover 2Okay, so I was totally brainwashed by MS marketing and went overboard with the whole surface thing. I purchased the surface 2 tablet last year to try out the surface and literally fell in love. Now I can't live without my device. I invested in the surface type cover 2 for the tablet and it was definitely one of the best purchase decisions I've made. Long story short, I now own a surface pro 3 and definitely wanted to get a the type cover specifically made for it - in RED of course.Man, was I surprised. Its freaking awesome. The overall keyboard of the surface pro type cover is slightly larger than the the surface type cover 2 but usability wise it was the same. The main difference between the two was the mouse pad. I love, love love, the surface pro type cover's mouse pad. Its definitely an improvement over its tablet predecessor. The mouse pad 'clicks' when you push down on it, something the type cover 2 did not do. The build quality felt just about the same, but it feels like a little more thought was put into the surface pro type cover. The little undulation between the screen and keyboard just big enough for you to put your pen down, the keyboard slightly larger for people with large fingers like me and the ability to fold up the keyboard so its at an angle when you're typing.Overall, both are really great buys. But if I were to choose between to the two, definitely get the surface pro type cover - keep in mind its only compatible with a surface pro not regular surface rt.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromLove the cover, hate the keyboardI got the surface to test and see if it can replace my main laptop i use for work, and I have to say it could very well replace it, if it wasn't for the type cover keyboard. The fact that it sometimes doesn't work when I connect it I'm pretty sure is a bug and will be fixed eventually so that doesn't bother me much. The real problem for me is that there is absolutely no space between keys, which is something I've never seen on a keyboard before. I didn't think much about it at first but if you start typing heavily on it you'll notice yourself making lots of mistakes because of it. I then proceeded to look everywhere online for all kinds of keyboards to inspect the layout and sure enough, all other keyboards have some kind of distance between keys. I hope the next revision of the keyboard takes that into consideration when designing it.Bluetooth will be high on the wish list from customers i'm sure too, as it would be awesome if it worked standalone.I'd call it a necessary evil I suppose, since I still need a keyboard and this one I can carry around with the surface. at my desk I continue to use a desktop keyboard and the surface dock. I love my surface that way.Hate to give two stars to it, but no space between keys really ruins the typing experience.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromWorked well, then came across some problemsFor the first 2-3 months, it worked well, but then I started coming up against walls. Sometimes the keyboard settings randomly switch to being Canadian- Multilingual keyboard from the US keyboard. Sometimes the mouse disappears on the screen and won't reappear unless I reboot the surface. Now I've had it for 9 ish months, and all the keys stick and are rather tough to press. I take exceptional care of it, so I can only assume it is flawed.
