Overview

Turn your Surface Pro 3 into a premium laptop
With improved stability to work well on your lap, Surface Pro Type Cover turns your Surface Pro 3 into a first-class laptop. It's enhanced with magnetic stability to keep the Cover steady.

Colorful, backlit mechanical keyboard
Boasting one of the thinnest mechanical keyboard available, Surface Pro Type Cover has the speed and functionality of a classic laptop keyboard. It's also backlit so you can continue working after the lights go out. Easy attach and disconnect lets you set up and get going right away.

Function keys, media controls, and touchpad
Surface Pro Type Cover features a QWERTY keyboard, a full row of Function keys (F1-F12), Windows shortcut keys, and media controls, so you can navigate expertly. An ultra-thin touchpad lets you control the cursor with your fingertip.

Doubles as a protective cover
Fold Surface Pro Type Cover back like a magazine for a tablet experience with Surface Pro 3. Surface Pro Type Cover keys are disabled when the cover is flipped back to avoid inadvertent typing. When you close Surface Pro Type Cover, the display shuts down, which helps protect the screen from bumps and scratches.

Ratings and reviews

Rated 4 out of5 by fromGood to have but not necessary!I bought it and will continue to use it because I have it. Be thank full that Microsoft sold it individually because it could really be the tipping point in price. If you are someone who regularly types throughout the day and on the move it's a must ( very compact). But, if you are like me and uses it as a tablet during the day at school and uses the pen religiously, then maybe a bluetooth keyboard and mouse (mouse isn't necessary "touchscreen" but convenient) at home (rarely to be carried with the tablet) might be a better option and will save you a little cash. This review is mostly food for thought for the person who is on edge buying one now. Or maybe wants to and consider all options first.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromIf only they sold them in other languangesI got to use the surface pro with the keyboard and like their durability and how if stuff gets spilled on them they can take it. If they can fix one short coming it would get a 5th star and that's they are only in English and in my house we have English and Korean languages spoken and used here. I understand logistics where you don't want to take to much space in a warehouse for all the different languages but could they allow for special order if another language is needed or even allow a vendor to make multiple language keyboards for them. They do that then might be in business and that's one of the major show stoppers with us besides using Windows 8 but maybe with 10 they can redeem themselves.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromVery NiceIn all honesty, I am rough on my keyboards. I get them dirty, like grease on the keys and God knows what underneath the keys. Anyways this keyboard is light, easy to clean, easy to attach on and overall a well featured. It is hard to get anything underneath the keys. It is nicely back lit with adjustable brightness, offers quick charm buttons, and all it's missing is a keypad. The felt is nice but one problem, the kick stand on the surface is a bit rough on the felt, so be cautious swinging the keyboard back behind your Surface and putting the stand on it. Other than those two things mentioned, it's been a great experience.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromEasy to use, easy to mistypeAs with any new keyboard you'll need to get used to this one. I find myself typing better on it day by day, but I'm still constantly tripping the CAPSLOCK. One oddity of note is that the Fn keys are dual purpose as so many are these days. On this particular keyboard though the alternate functions are the default and you need to Fn-Fx to get the Fn key to work. Otherwise press Fn-CAPSLOCK to toggle the default to the Fn key instead of the alternate purpose (Vol, Brightness, etc)

Rated 2 out of5 by fromFeels cheaply madeThe keyboard works ok and the backlighting is great, but the keyboard is made of the cheapest material. I've only had it a short time, but I have had toys made of the same type of flocked surface. It gets very dirty, and does not clean well. The flocking wears off and then you have the background material showing through in spots so it looks splotchy. That's probably why they didn't include the keyboard with the SP3. They would have to replace them too often. This keyboard makes a decent system look SO cheap.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromIncredibly Good but....The keyboard is incredibly good, I just love the backlight which makes easier to at low light environment BUT the blue one which is also beautiful, easily accumulate dirt. Why??

Rated 3 out of5 by fromGreat Cover; Awful KeyboardThe New York Times trashed the whole Surface lineup almost entirely because of this "keyboard," and for good reason. It's a beautiful cover. I love the way it attaches/detaches. Very handy for typing out a quick thought of a 100 to 200 characters. But do NOT expect to use this cover for serious laptop keyboard work. It will drive you crazy, just like it does me and like it did the NY Times reviewer. If you plan to use the Surface either as tablet only for combination reading/browsing and laptop typing, buy a separate Bluetooth keyboard instead. This cover would be a waste. Only buy this keyboard if you plan to use it for short notes. Even then you will find it frustrating but probably slightly less frustrating than fishing around your case for a separate keyboard.Given the beautiful attach/detach feature of Surface, it's stupid for Microsoft not to make a real keyboard for the Surface. Who cares if it's a little bigger and klunkier? It's attached with a magnet. Just rip it off when you want to use the Surface as a tablet. If you're using it as a laptop, it's because it's resting on something, say your lap for instance, You don't care if it's a little bigger and heavier then. Snap it on and use it like a real laptop.
