Colorful, backlit mechanical keyboard
Boasting one of the thinnest mechanical keyboard available, Surface Pro Type Cover has the speed and functionality of a classic laptop keyboard. It's also backlit so you can continue working after the lights go out. Easy attach and disconnect lets you set up and get going right away.

Function keys, media controls, and touchpad
Surface Pro Type Cover features a QWERTY keyboard, a full row of Function keys (F1-F12), Windows shortcut keys, and media controls, so you can navigate expertly. An ultra-thin touchpad lets you control the cursor with your fingertip.

Doubles as a protective cover

Ratings and reviews

Rated 5 out of5 by fromAwesome keyboardthe keyboard is awesome. Great quality and barely adds any heft to my SP3.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromGetting betterJust recently, I upgraded from the Surface Pro 128GB to the SP3. I was already used to the Surface Type Cover 2, so, I wanted one for my new toy. I liked the red one the most on the Mocrosoft Store page and since my local BB didn't have it, I ordered it there online.A warning: The color on the red one is actually a much brighter and fuller red than on the picture. I can live with it but be aware that the brownish tint seen here on the image doesn't reflect the color in the real world! Finally, a type cover with a trackpad that actually feels like one! It drove me nuts on the previous generations because you simply couldn't feel it properly and button press was often hit and miss. Not so with this one. It even supports the most common Windows 8 touch screen gestures. That means less reason to touch the screen.Besides the slight difference in the color, there are 2 things I am not so happy about:The first one is that the magnets to put your keyboard in a slight angle are a bit strong and you sometimes have problems to keep the keyboard flat, especially if you work on an uneven surface. The second issue is that the type cover doesn't fold back perfectly if you want to use the Surface as a tablet. If you try, the keyboard most likely will snap out of the port and, instead of one, you're holding 2 items in your hand. Still, this isn't as bad as it sounds like. Maybe my keyboard is still too new and it will get better over time but for now, it is an issue.Either way, I like the keyboard. It was worth the money and, in my opinion, it is a must have for every Surface owner.

Rated 3 out of5 by fromVery smooth and clean, but a few issuesI bought my type cover a few weeks ago. It's pretty neat- the magnetic connection is really cool and the cover is very thin. A few problems, however:Occasionally the type cover randomly stops working and I have to reconnect it.The material on the back gets dirty easily. The keys show fingerprints very quickly and it's hard to get off.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromIncredibly usable and comfortableDisclaimer: this is a very thin, small keyboard, so my review is written in that context. However, I use the surface pro 3 as my daily driver PC, and I type almost exclusively on the Type Cover Pro. Hours later, I'm perfectly comfortable, and not that I'm used to its particular layout/spacing I'm no slower than on any full-sized keyboard. In particular, having it magnetically snap up to the device is a huge improvement over the previous generation type cover. It improves the stability of the device dramatically (particularly when using on the lap), and makes it feel much more natural. The only downside of this configuration is that it makes it harder to tap buttons on the taskbar with your finger. The trackpad is still not macbook air quality, but I've never found myself bothered by its feel or responsiveness, unlike the previous gen.Literally the only oddity to me is that, in a product that already has lots of magnets, it doesn't magnetically hold closed to the Surface Pro 3 when you're closing it as a device screen cover. Odd, but hardly a problem as long as you expect it.I love my type cover. If you're getting a Surface Pro 3, this is strongly recommended.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromGood to have but not necessary!I bought it and will continue to use it because I have it. Be thank full that Microsoft sold it individually because it could really be the tipping point in price. If you are someone who regularly types throughout the day and on the move it's a must ( very compact). But, if you are like me and uses it as a tablet during the day at school and uses the pen religiously, then maybe a bluetooth keyboard and mouse (mouse isn't necessary "touchscreen" but convenient) at home (rarely to be carried with the tablet) might be a better option and will save you a little cash. This review is mostly food for thought for the person who is on edge buying one now. Or maybe wants to and consider all options first.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromLove the cover, hate the keyboardI got the surface to test and see if it can replace my main laptop i use for work, and I have to say it could very well replace it, if it wasn't for the type cover keyboard. The fact that it sometimes doesn't work when I connect it I'm pretty sure is a bug and will be fixed eventually so that doesn't bother me much. The real problem for me is that there is absolutely no space between keys, which is something I've never seen on a keyboard before. I didn't think much about it at first but if you start typing heavily on it you'll notice yourself making lots of mistakes because of it. I then proceeded to look everywhere online for all kinds of keyboards to inspect the layout and sure enough, all other keyboards have some kind of distance between keys. I hope the next revision of the keyboard takes that into consideration when designing it.Bluetooth will be high on the wish list from customers i'm sure too, as it would be awesome if it worked standalone.I'd call it a necessary evil I suppose, since I still need a keyboard and this one I can carry around with the surface. at my desk I continue to use a desktop keyboard and the surface dock. I love my surface that way.Hate to give two stars to it, but no space between keys really ruins the typing experience.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromGreat type coverI got this a little over a week ago and it works as advertised. The backlit keys make it easy to use in the backseat of the car at night.
