Installation and FAQ

How do I install Office?

After purchase, you can install Office at www.office.com/myaccount. For more information, see the FAQ.

How do I know if my computer or device can run Office?

You can install Office on PCs running Windows 7 or higher, and Macs running Mac OS X 10.10 or higher. For more information, including requirements for tablets and smartphones, see www.office.com/information.

Is Internet access required for Office?

Internet access is required to install and activate all the latest releases of Office suites and all Office 365 subscription plans. For Office 365 plans, Internet access is also needed to manage your subscription account, for example to install Office on other PCs or Macs or to change billing options. Internet access is also required to access documents stored on OneDrive, unless you install the OneDrive desktop app. You should also connect to the Internet regularly to keep your version of Office up to date and benefit from automatic upgrades. If you do not connect to the Internet at least every 39 days, your applications will go into reduced functionality mode, which means that you can view or print your documents, but cannot edit the documents or create new ones. To reactivate your Office applications, reconnect to the Internet. You do not need to be connected to the Internet to use the Office applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, because the applications are fully installed on your computer.

Can I install the new Office on my Mac?

If you have an active Office 365 Home, Personal or University subscription, and Mac OS X 10.10 or higher, you can install Office 2016 for Mac from www.office.com/myaccount. If you have an older version of OS X, you will be able to install Office for Mac 2011 versions of the Office apps from www.office.com/myaccount. Publisher and Access applications are not available for Mac.

I am an existing Office 365 subscriber. How do I get Office 2016 for Mac?

If you have an active Office 365 Home, Personal or University subscription, and Mac OS X 10.10 or higher, you can install Office 2016 for Mac from www.office.com/myaccount. If you have an older version of OS X, you will be able to install Office for Mac 2011 versions of the Office apps from www.office.com/myaccount. Publisher and Access applications are not available for Mac.

What are Skype minutes?

You can use Skype minutes to call friends or family with or without a Skype account on their mobile phone or landline. Just dial from Skype and your friends and family can pick up on their phone. Each active Office 365 Home, Personal and University subscription is entitled to 60 minutes of Skype minutes per month, which can be used to make Skype calls to phones in over 60 countries/regions. Office 365 Home subscribers can share a subscription with up to four members of their household, and each person will get 60 Skype minutes per month. Your Skype minutes will be applied to a new or existing Skype account. Each month you will receive 60 Skype minutes. Your Skype allowance resets each month. Special, premium and non-geographic numbers cannot be called using Skype. Calls to mobiles are for select countries only. Skype minutes available in select countries, see www.office.com/information for details.

How much OneDrive storage do customers get?

Customers with an active Office 365 Home subscription receive an additional 1TB of OneDrive storage. They can share their subscription benefits with up to four members of their household, and each member who is added to the existing subscription also receives an additional 1TB OneDrive storage. This additional storage is not available during trial periods. This additional 1TB of OneDrive storage is applied to the OneDrive accounts that are linked to the Microsoft account used to create the Office 365 subscription account and any other account (up to four) that the subscription purchaser decides to share their subscription benefits with.

Can people with another Office version open documents I create with Office 365 Home?

Yes, a person with a previous version of Microsoft Office can easily open documents created with Office 365 Home applications. Office 2007, Office 2010, Office 365, or Office 2013 users can open documents created using the latest release of Office applications without any additional action. Customers using earlier versions of Office may need to download and install a compatibility pack.

Ratings and reviews

Rated 4 out of5 by from365 is One Marble ShortWe are into our second year of MS Office 365 running on both a PC and a Mac. No problem with it on the PC, get all the features of all the programs, but WE HATE! having to cope with it on our Mac. For example, the shortcomings of 365's Word 2011 on the Mac, (v 2013 on the PC) especially in heavy editing, page sizing, quirky cut and paste limitations, limited options in page setup and the dictionary options and, on and on, means we can not use (edit and review) documents created in Word 2013 on our PC, or those done by others on their PC,s on our Mac.No, OX programs do not handle all of the needs we, and others have re: Word 2011.We raised the issue before with Apple and MS, who were sympathetic, and recognized the issues, but that is all. "Maybe in 2015 or 2016, we will update 365 for the Mac." In the meantime, we suggest anyone running (or selling) 365 on both PC and Mac, make themselves aware of the problems, or have both a PC and a Mac handy.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromHad to buy to get Android version!I had the complete Office 2013 Suite already installed, but, after beta-testing the preview of the product for Android, for some reason, MS decided not to offer the free version to those with tablets larger than 10". So, I had to buy a subscription just to get the products on my tablet. While it works fine on the tablet (and actually has some nice features), installing Office 365 Home on my desktop was problematic, and required a lengthy tech support call to repair some glitches (short version -- remove Office 2013 before installing Office 365!)

Rated 2 out of5 by fromdoesn't work on android tablet, galaxy note 10.1It has been nice for use on my computers, I am disappointed that it does not work across all platforms with offline access, I recently switched from using all google services because the 365 package with 1tb cloud space for 5 users for $10 seemed like a better deal than googles $10 for 1tb for 1 user and no other premium servicew included. Imdont know if I made a mistake, I will give it some time and see how it works for me.
