Ratings and reviews

Rated 4 out of5 by fromMust-Have for your SurfaceI bought this right with the purchase of my Surface and couldn't imagine not having it. It is super-thin and won't take more than a few days to get your muscle memory up to speed. I can type at around 90% of my usual WPM on my mechanical keyboard with my desktop, which I think is great for a little thing like this.My only complaint is that the track pad is OK. The mouse buttons really need to be tactile like the other keys. I ordered a Wedge touch mouse to help with extended use with certain software (like Excel and Premier Pro) and I'm very satisfied.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromAn absolute must have for every Surface ownerI can't imagine having a Surface 2 without a Type Cover 2. The keys feel great and it doubles as a very effective case. The trackpad is decent but could use some improvement (having a Macbook Pro raised the standard for trackpads), especially the scrolling which isn't as smooth as I would have liked. But overall, it's a great buy. I just wish it wasn't so expensive, it's a bit overpriced

Rated 4 out of5 by fromAwesome KeyboardI have been using the Type Cover 2 for about 3 months now, and I think it's great. If you get any cover for your Surface, get this one. The backlighting is adjustable. It's thin, and typing is easy on it. The keyboard doesn't feel artificially small, either. My only complaint is the trackpad, and that's why I took away a star. If I could have, I would have only taken away 1/2 a star. I should first mention that the trackpad functions as it should, works well, and has nice features built-in (such as, swipe gestures, two-finger tap right click, and more). The trackpad is covered by the same material that also covers the Type Cover, itself, and that's what I have a problem with. This covering makes the trackpad hard to use because it isn't set apart very well from the body of the cover. Oftentimes, I'll find myself accidentally doing swipe gestures, or completely missing the trackpad. Active use of the trackpad requires me to constantly look down at it to make sure I found it before I can look back at my screen to click on whatever I wanted to click on. Additionally, the texture of the covering material works well for the Type Cover, itself, but I find it irritating to rub against when I use the trackpad. The trackpad would have been better if it had been some sort of hard, slick surface, distinctly set apart from the rest of the cover.Overall, the Type Cover 2 is a great product, and I highly recommend it.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromGreat keyboard but too priceyI've tried many ultra portalble keyboards and they have all suffered the 'compact' flaw. None of them we comfortable to type on because the keys were so cramped. The Type Cover is not like the others and has avoided that flaw. I would have given it 5 starts but $130 is to much this keyboard imo, reguardless, I still bought it because it's the most functional keyboard for my Surface Pro 2.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromExactly what I expectedI have a larger (15.6 inch) laptop that is great for around the house, but it dominates the smaller tables at coffee shops. Because of this, I'd been thinking about adding a second notebook; something more like an ultra light. After some research, I picked up the Type Cover 2 instead for the Surface I already owned. There were many reviewers that said the touchpad is of poor quality. Yes, it isn't ideal, however I find that it gets the job done well enough. The keyboard itself is good though a bit small for my man hands (not surprising based on the physical size of the Surface), but I found I am adjusting to it well enough. The bottom line is that I am happy with the investment and would definitely purchase the cover again.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromCant Ask for anything better for my Surface Pro!Lightweight, backlit, protects my device. Its all I need it to be. Yes, its a tad too expensive (should be $99 at the most) but I dont mind paying the price when the keyboard/cover is this good.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromAwesome Keyboard (One Flaw)I love this keyboard the backlight is a big improvement but they took away the good trackpad...The trackpad on the original type cover was awesome and they replaced it with the one from the touch cover. Pros: Type as fast as I normally do on a regular keyboard. Backlight see in the dark :)Cons: Just the trackpad but easily fixed with using the bluetooth mouse.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromGreat Keyboard/Cover, Touchpad is Sub Par.Extremely Heavy User for 4 monthsPros: Awesome keyboard for the Surface Pro 2. The backlit keys are really nice and effective. The touch on the keys are precise and I rarely mistype. It acts as a really nice cover too. It protects it though a ton of wear and tear.Cons: The touchpad is not that great, okay, it is totally terrible -ish. I have had a few laptops with worse touchpads. It can start to fray (peel) at the corners of the product with heavy use - although mine has not started to fray yet. I think it is inevitable because the Surface never sees a sleeve, only a desk and backpack.Other Thoughts: If you have the Pro 2, I use the pen for tricky situations like in Visual Studios. I rarely use the touchpad because I a very proficient with the pen and touch gestures. Ultimately I would recommend buying it, it was well worth it for me.
