Rated 5 out of5 by fromGreat Operating System! Not as bad as people are complaining about, and learning curve is just something people say. It does everything Windows 7 does and more. You see people complaining about things you can't do that Windows 7 does, and I do it on Windows 8.1 with maybe 1 or 2 clicks more. How is that a pain or learning curve? Start Scree is just a Start Menu with Apps added. Two places to shut down, one in the Start Button just like Windows 7 Start Menu, and Charms Bar that everyone knows already. All the complaints about things gone you can still do with out the things they taken away that used to be in Windows 7. Heck, I really can not see what people are complaining about enough to not even use Windows 8.1.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromstill don`t like iti upgraded from windows 8. i went to pick up my laptop and the screen turned sideways like a tablet would. not a big deal but the operating system needs to distinguish itself from a desktop or phone/tablet. i actually had to click to NOT let the screen rotate. i think that feature should be built in so the system knows if it`s a desktop or phone/tablet. i also upgraded to the new 10 preview and had the same issue only this time the setting would not take. i tried several times and it kept reverting back to the sideways screen. i finally went back to windows 8.1.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromMicrosoft OSI have used Microsoft from Dos to Works win 95 and have used every single OS system they have put out...By far Windows XP and 7 are the strongest hassle free OS systems ever. but window 8.0, 8.1, 8.1 Pro are chuck full of issues and problems, they have way to many internet issues and the system tends to get corrupted faster than anything I have ever used. I would not recommend anything above win 7 until they fix this it...I have also heard that Microsoft is fast tracking windows 9 and it will be offered as a free upgrade to us saps that purchased windows 8 and 8.1....I'm sure some will have a fits over his post but I think many of us are facing the same issues with this OS..just read the reviews...

Rated 4 out of5 by fromIt takes some getting used to.I have had my laptop for about a month. Thankfully I purchased one with a touchscreen. I highly recommend getting a touchscreen when you purchase your computer. It makes the transition to using the metro applications easier. I still miss some of the features of Windows 7 that were removed from 8 but I am slowly getting used to the new ways to navigate and complete tasks with Windows 8.1. Overall I am satisfied but I don't see any upgrades for my other computers in the near future. This is the only Windows 8.1 computer in my house. We have four other computers running Windows 7 and one running OSX Mavericks. My Mac is also set up to dual boot with Windows 7. I would recommend this product but there is a little bit of a learning curve. Especially if you are making the jump from XP to 8.1.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromSo far so good!I first tried windows 8 long before it came out some how I stumbled across a sneak preview of it. I didn't really like it as at the time I was barely breaking in windows 7 home premium.I have been using it now for about a year(8.1) and I like it now that I know my way around. It did remind me of a phone OS. But I get it now. And that's what it is about us. We don't like the things we don't understand. Tonight I went to best buy and saw all the latest stuff that was just released and WOW!! I'm loving it thanks M.S. and ADOBE. my two favorites.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromI'm considering migration to linuxAfter one week using laptop with Windows 8.1 i'm pretty sure i'll install Linux. Windows fail to run certified compilers, lack ability to accesss and secure configuration files, and always upgrade or go to online store without my consent.Windows developers have forgotten, that usability matters, and some people are using computers to work. Oracle or RedHat gave me everything, i need for free. When i pay for support i got real assistance in solving my issues, not some uninformative videos.
