Ratings and reviews

Rated 5 out of5 by fromI was skeptical but.....I have been using this OS for a couple of weeks now. After using Windows 7 for so long I was worried the switch would be a big adjustment. I am happy to say the transition was smooth and I'm enjoying all the new features Microsoft has added. Just to clear some things up about the student edition: Yes, you can do a clean install or the upgrade. The upgrade would only keep my personal files so I went with the clean install. Installation was super fast! Can't wait for the free upgrade to Windows 10!

Rated 5 out of5 by fromNow is the time! Now is the time to get a Windows 8.1 Pro license to take advantage of the Windows 10 Pro upgrade.I was using a Mac, along with a Windows XP on my custom built desktop. As soon as my summer holiday started and I was ready for some PC gaming I came here and bought a license and now I am enjoying the amazing Windows 8.1, and can't wait for the best Windows ever, Windows 10!

Rated 1 out of5 by fromWorse OS I’ve ever usedI had gotten an email from Microsoft to write a review for a resent purchase, Windows 8.1. Every time we (family) turn on the computer, Windows 8 wants to update, so after about two hour of downloads, it restarts. The installs begin and last over an hour, again the computer restarts. An error message “Failure configuring Windows updates…,” is displayed, and then we wait an hour and a half for Windows 8 to roll back. Every day I have to wait hours before I can use my computer. This is not only the worse OS I’ve ever used, but most likely the worst product I own.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromBest windows yet!!!As someone that has used and repaired every windows version this is by far my favorite. Most people don't like it for whatever reason but I think they are just rejecting change. Can't wait to get a touch screen

Rated 4 out of5 by fromWindows 8.1 isn't nearly as bad as everyone makesAfter having Windows 8.1 on my Dell Venue 11 for several months and actually liking it quite a bit I decided to update my custom built gaming computer from Windows 7 to 8.1 one as well. It didn't hurt that being a student I was able to get the Pro version at a discount through the Microsoft Store. The purchase went off without a hitch and installing Windows 8.1 was as easy as could be (as always backup your files before trying something like this).I'm a computer geek and an IT Professional (which makes me a perpetual student hence the discount) with over a decade of experience and I really think Microsoft did a pretty good job with Windows 8.1 and it really doesn't deserve the bad rap it got. Sure the Start Screen wasn't the best conceived idea ever (Classic Shell to the rescue) and every once in a while I am awed that some options like refreshing a list of wireless networks available have been removed but my two systems so far have been VERY stable and Windows 8.1 seems to need very little system resources leaving more for the other stuff I really want to do like gaming. And in a couple of months I will get to try out the full version of Windows 9 (no x) for free!

Rated 5 out of5 by fromVery easy to use if on the desktop constantly.I bought this software for my new gaming rig, and it has been quite easy and straight forward while on the desktop. Meaning if I have to get to quick networking settings the side bar that shows all connections and the status of those connections is quite useful. I have not ventured through the metro layout yet, but I may try it sooner or later. Overall it is a great version of windows and it was a great price for being a student. Can't wait until windows 10 is out.
