Overview

Outnumbered and outgunned, but not outmatched

Outnumbered and outgunned, but not outmatched

The newest chapter in the Call of Duty franchise features a fresh dynamic where players are on the side of a crippled nation fighting not for freedom, or liberty, but simply to survive.

Ten years after a devastating mass event, the nation's borders and the balance of global power have been redrawn forever. A superpower no more, the country's once-mighty military struggles to stave off complete collapse. As what's left of the nation's Special Operations forces, a mysterious group known only as "Ghosts" leads the fight back against a newly emerged, technologically superior global power.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromDissapointingAnother year, another Call of Duty. I really enjoyed Black Ops 2, and I was excited to see what Infinity Ward would bring for the next generation of consoles. I really hoped that IW and Activision would bring it for the next gen. But, we got another run-of-the-mill standard first person shooter, just like the Modern Warfare series. The campaign starts out promising, but ends up falling face-first. It's your standard shooting gallery, with really no depth in the plot, which made me sad because of its potential. Multiplayer is fun for awhile, but it drags on. The new "Squads" feature doesn't make much sense and is overly complicated. The maps are a bit too large (however they're good for Ground War), and the spawns are horrendous. I've only played extinction once, but I can tell you that it doesn't really add much value to spending 60 dollars on a game. In a nutshell, this game felt very last gen, and even Black Ops 2 felt more next-gen. I would recommend you rent this game before you decide on buying it. If you're a hardcore Call of Duty fan, you might be satisfied, but if you were hoping for the next-generation gaming experience - stay away.

Rated 3 out of5 by fromFell short this time aroundThis duty takes a little getting used to at first. It looks nice but not as good as you would expect from the "next gen" experience. The spawns are horrible and game is still not on dedicated servers like it was promised just matchmaking. If you are on the fence about this or BF4 with all the recent fixes BF4 is a much better game this coming from someone that usually play CoD.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromWith most games like this where a single player campaign and multi-player are offered, reactions are very polarized because nearly every person prefers one over the other. I prefer a single player experience that is challenging, captivating, and with characters that you can connect with, and in that aspect, Call of Duty Ghosts does not disappoint. I can't point my finger at this game and say it is the same old Call of Duty, because unlike the Modern Warfare series, this game eludes to many science fiction and post apocalyptic models. There are also some new fighting elements mixed in to keep the gameplay from getting stale. As for the Multi-player, I have friends that insist that I play with them, so I play it, but it's not the reason I bought the game. With Multi-player and Squads, I felt underwhelmed, but Extinction was another ballgame entirely. Extinction takes a page from Treyarch's Call of Duty Zombies in the form of an alien invasion. It's very fun, and even with a  good squad, it is very challenging. I would recommend this product, but if you have an Xbox 360 and can find that version a bit cheaper, I'd recommend that to be the best route. The graphics are still crisp and clear, but when the game maker comes out and says that they will shoot for the stars on the next one, that should speak volumes.
