Ratings and reviews

Rated 5 out of5 by fromHighly Functional and True LapBletI bought SP3 few weeks ago trading in my SP1. I am already a SP user but sp3 took it up a notch. The weight is well balanced, the new pen and its design with one note is a joy to use. The 12" size at 3:2 aspect ratio is sweet spot. One definitely needs the type cover for a full LapBlet experience and I tell you it an awesome one. I run DXO, JMP, Minitab, adobe writer, and other productivity software on the i3 version with no issues, I also do light movie editing with ease. This is a well beautifully crafted LapBlet, it can only get even better with next version. I hope to see it lighter (1.3lb), more ports, does not need to be thinner.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromThis is the best "laptop/tablet" I have ever ownedI am enrolled in graduate school online and I needed something that would meet all my needs. This tablet did for me. I travel for business about three times a year and it is compact enough to carry through the airport and at the same time powerful enough to handle the online class environment, work etc... I was concerned about the size but even that doesn't bother me one bit. I love how I can write with the stylus and organize it as neat as if I was writing on a piece of paper. There is nothing I don't like about this device and would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an all in one computer. Microsoft got it right with this one!

Rated 5 out of5 by fromLight, fast, and usefulI had a MacBook Pro and iPad. Neither could do what I needed. SP3 does both worlds better than either of those other systems. OneNote 2013 steals the show with the pen support. Full office support, full desktop programs like ArcGIS, but nimble to read pdf's, books, etc on. OneDrive is a beast as well that works for me. I absolutely do not regret leaving the Mac world. Having a USB port is some sort of blasphemy to Mac tablets, but it is ridiculous. Have to have them, they make things useful. Even just the file structure alone is worth it as opposed to going through Apple's iTunes or their janky cloud storage system. Couldn't be happier. What a great product.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromCoolest PC everThis is by far the coolest PC I've ever owned. Microsoft has created the slimmest, lightest high-powered PC ever. Just like its office suite, the Surface 3 is an amazing tool to get work done in nearly limitless ways. I find that not only is the device ultra-portable, it's so light and thin that I bring it everywhere. It's much more handy than my laptop and much more used. It's better than a laptop for watching movies in bed--and thanks to the kickstand, better than an iPad for that matter. Mega thanks to Microsoft for putting together such a sweet computer for the PC faithful. It's nice to have Apple fanboys eyeing my computer enviously for a change.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromOverall Excellent, couple niggling faultsOverall, I am loving the SP3. Coming from the ATIV500 the performance is fantastic, with battery life comparable to that much lower spec'd machine.Areas for Improvement:* Ability to disable the capacitive windows button (and switch to a physical home button on the next generation that can be used as both the windows button and a power switch)* Opening the type cover should turn on the device (use a magnetic switch like the ATIV500)* 16GB RAM option (for those of us who need to use VM's for work)* second USB 3 port* Silent option that throttles the CPU instead of firing up the fan* color coordinate option for pen button to type cover color

Rated 5 out of5 by fromImpressive MSI've been a Mac user for years (since 1987). I've stuck with Apple through the ups and downs. I must say, MS seems to be the one innovating. I got a Surface Pro 3 for work (MS Project is a must) and fell in love with it. It does everything I want and then some. I love taking it with me on the road. I've hardly turned on my Retina MacBook Pro since getting a surface. I've also discovered xBox Music and have been trying out a Windows Phone. I am just impressed all around at the strides this company is making back to the front. Keep it up Microsoft!

Rated 5 out of5 by fromGreat PhD LaptopI am an electrical engineering PhD student at the moment, and needed a smaller laptop, that I could use for development. I mainly run code in Julia, since it is fairly convenient, and have been impressed. I can develop the code on my surface, run a couple of simulations, then send the job to my desktop to run for days.I also use the surface for writing in latex and it works great. I use Visio to create diagrams. It is honestly the first laptop in a longtime which has not disappointed, and in addition has exceeded my expectations. My only gripe, is the touchpad on the surface keyboard is a little annoying.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromWhat your used too!If you grew up Democrat the chances are very high that you will be an individual with Democratic views. If you grew up only driving Fords the chances are you buy Fords. Of course this is not always the case! I would argue this is more likely the case then not. All this being said, if you grew up on Apple or use Apple products a lot, you most likely will like Apple no matter how GREAT a different product is.My point is I have used both, and can tell you the Surface Pro 3 with 8Ghz of memory to include overt 225gigs of memory this is the most powerful vertical tablet/desktop/laptop I have ever owned. Microsoft finally did something right!
