Installation and FAQ

What's the difference between Office 365 plans and Office 2016 suites?

Office 365 plans include the complete suite of Office applications, plus other services that are enabled over the Internet, including extra cloud storage with OneDrive and Skype minutes for home use. With Office 365 you get the full, installed Office experience on PCs, Macs, tablets (including Windows, iPad, and Android) and smartphones. Office 365 plans are available as a monthly or annual subscription. With Office 365, upgrades are always included with your subscription.

Office 2016 suites, including Office Home & Student and Home & Business, include applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote; they are available as a one-time purchase for use on a single PC or Mac. The applications are not automatically updated; to get the latest version, you must purchase Office again when the new version becomes available.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromOffice 365 for PC and MAC is 182 for MACThe 1 star examples illustrate it sufficiently. Office for PC is terrific. For mac? Half the features. For example, cannot customize the ribbon. A big issue when using it on a laptop and you want desktop space. So it is touted as a PC/MAC product, but it is half the features for MAC. Should be called Office 182. A downgrade in features from Office 2011.How could millions in R&D output so little from one generation to another, and one platform to another? How come it lags behind Open Office and Office 2011 14.6 SP3??

Rated 1 out of5 by fromfrustratedI never (tried to) work any application that was more user unfriendly than MS office. Mac OS X is light years ahead of this and trying to get my money back is more of an unfriendly process than the App I knew better than to attempt a Microsoft product, never again

Rated 2 out of5 by fromCan't customize the ribbon. So sad.One of the best features of Office 2013 was the ability to customize the ribbon--without having to hunt and peck all over the ribbon for the functions used most, you could put everything in one place. I'm not sure why they took this function away, but I hate it. And it breaks my heart, because giving negative reviews is not really my thing. But I'd really like this to be fixed on an update! Pretty please, bring back the customizeable ribbon. With sugar on top.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromInsanely Buggy, Missing FeaturesThe software is extremely buggy, with unbelievable resource requirements. It regularly grabs 7+ GB of ram, and simply trashes the computer. Frequently asks for access to folders and files, instead of opening them. Missing tons of features from the prior versions.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromSuch a disappointmentThe office suite was fine to download. However, every time I try to launch any of the applications, it takes at least 45 seconds to a full minute to open. The excel twitches and jerks the screen every time you move the page since the the scrolling mechanism in the software isn't in sync with the mouse. A clean, fresh look in no way makes up for the poor performance.
