FAQs

Q: What sensors does Microsoft Band 2 have?

A: Microsoft Band 2 has sensors that help you track info about your activity level, UV exposure, location, heart rate, elevation, and more.

Continuous heart rate monitor
Your Microsoft Band 2 continuously monitors your heart rate during the day. See Track your heart rate for more info.

Accelerometer/Gyrometer
The accelerometer/gyrometer in your band detects motion. This info is used to calculate things like number of steps taken. For info on tracking these measurements, see track your calories burned, track your exercise, track your steps, and track your sleep.

GPS
When you turn GPS on during distance travel activities like running, or biking, it records your route, and collects info about the distance you’ve traveled. Sync your band with your phone, and you’ll find a map of your route in the Microsoft Health app. Use the Run Tile to start and stop GPS tracking for running, and the Bike tile when you ride. See using GPS mapping for more information.

Microphone
Use the built-in microphone to speak to Cortana, your personal digital assistant (available only on Windows Phone 8.1 update or later). The microphone is near the left side of the touchscreen. When Cortana’s enabled on your phone and band, just press and hold the action button then speak into the mic. See using Cortana for more info.

Ambient Light Sensor
Info from the ambient light sensor can be used to adjust the brightness of your touchscreen display automatically.

Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) sensors
The GSR sensor measures the conductivity of your skin between the GSR sensor under the clasp and the secondary GSR contact point under the face of your Microsoft Band 2. This tells your Microsoft Band 2 whether you’re wearing it, so it can adjust how it monitors your activities.

UV Monitor
Get a snapshot of the current UV level by tapping the UV Tile.

Barometer
Track your fitness with more precision with a built-in barometer that measures elevation changes while running, biking, or just climbing stairs.

Q: What is auto sleep tracking?

A: You can use Microsoft Band 2 to track how much and how well you’re sleeping.

Microsoft Band 2 tracks the length and quality of your sleep using biometric data like heart rate and motion. The Microsoft Health app and your Microsoft Health web dashboard use data collected by the band to calculate and help you analyze your sleep quality.

Q: What are Guided Workouts, and how do I know which is right for me?

A: Guided Workouts are workout routines you download to your Microsoft Band 2. Your band will tell you what exercise to do, and can track your reps and calories burned. They keep your workouts fresh and challenging with targeted workout plans designed by top fitness brands.

Choose a Guided Workout plan based on your fitness goals. Select the difficulty level, duration, and the focus area that’s right for you, and get a summary of your effort and progress.

Guided Workout videos show you how to do your exercises for maximum fitness benefit.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromGreat deviceHeart rate, calories are measured very accurately and with the app and web health dashboard is very usefull. The user interface is really well done, it is not cluttered and with the phone app you can remove bits you don't use (for example you can remove the running tab but keep the cycling tab)I like how it can show the time continuously and still survive more than one day of useIt seems more thought went into the user interface of this than in windows 10. :-)I would only like to have seen your heartrate displayed continuously during excercise, intead of requiring the swipe to peek. Finally, I would've given it 5 stars if it was fully waterproof so I could shower/swim with it.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromHappy with my Band 2Overall happy with the band 2. I was concerned about the comfort others mentioned but have not experienced this. The band fits comfortably with ample room to adjust.I have an iPhone. The text and phone integration works fine for me. I can see texts and who is calling just fine.I wear it at night to track my sleep and find it accurate noting when I awake (I do recall when I toss/turn) and sleep. One function I am not happy with is the time the band takes to acquire a GPS signal. One bike ride it took the band over a mile to acquire GPS. The second rid I waited 3 or 4 minutes and then started to ride. It the band over a mile still to acquire GPS. Because of this I find myself using other apps along with the band which I did not want to do. I am hoping Microsoft has a software fix for this.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromPerfect as near as makes no difference.Loving the Band 2. The Band 2 just happens to fit my needs perfectly, I don't want just a smart watch but at the same time I want a fully fictional fitness tracker. Microsoft nailed the blend of smart watch features and fitness tracking in my opinion. Sadly this product doesn't get the visibility it deserves because it gets a bunch of things right for the person that is conscious about fitness and also enjoys having basic, but handy smart watch features.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromGreat deviceRead reviews some of which were negative and somewhat obvious anti M/S. Bought the band hoping golf tile was as advertised; a few wrinkles, visited the M/S store and got great help and all works great. Very happy with all features. a little patience and sticking with capabilities has made it a great deviceHouston Tx

Rated 5 out of5 by fromMost amazingly useful feature packed devicePros:1. Don't need to look at the phone for variety of notifications since I get all my notifications on band2. It tracks all useful information in order to maintain healthiest lifestyle3. I wear it 24*7 (barring sometime to charge it and shower) and I even don't feel it that I have it on my wrist.Cons:1. Please let me know if you find one :)

Rated 5 out of5 by fromGreat ProductI purchased two Bands, my wife and I are both motivated to do a little more each day. The GPS tracking of my hiking produces a true measure of distance, and the altitude change another measure of workout intensity. There is a great wealth of data generated by the Band and the accompanying health website. The only downside of the Band is the battery life especially when using the GPS feature. It would be great if you could cycle a spare battery or two into the Band rather than having to wait for a recharge. The upside of the Band puts simple pedometers to shame, and that is an understatement, I have not been disappointed in the sophistication of the features and will look forward to the next generation. We live in an area without good cellular coverage and therefore do not use smartphones, the interface for using a PC in place of a smartphone is very good although a little quirky to get a data connection up to download the Band's contents. I mention this as we experience this with both Bands and on two different PCs.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromgood bandI had band 1..... And this isa definite improvement. However, I used the sizing chart a couple different times and ended up with the large, and it's not the right size. My size was right between the large and the medium so chose the large. Ugh.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromAn major improvementI had the original band, which was great in a lot of ways, but which suffered some serious deficiencies that this iteration improved upon. The new metrics with steps and floors is nice, as well as letting me be a little more definite about what generic exercise I'm doing (Yoga, rowing, etc.). Most importantly, the whole thing is far more comfortable. The old contact surface was irritating and the flat display made it hard to lay your arm on a desk at any other angle than one.The Smart Alarm is confusing to me, as it consistently wakes me up well before I intend and I'm not really experiencing the value of that, but that you can set an alarm on it at all is tremendously valuable to me, as I can be woken up without waking up my wife. The music control for my phone is a nice touch too, but other connectivity is hit or miss. I don't want to discourage anyone, because when Cortana and notifications work they're fantastic, but it sure seems like Cortana doesn't work more than half the time, or I can't connect to the keyboard to reply to a text, etc. Notifications work most of the time, but I've had to restart the band and my phone enough times to keep that working that it's worth mentioning. I have a Windows 10 phone, and was hoping that sharing a development platform (to a degree) would mean that they were better about their interconnectivity.
