Ratings and reviews

Rated 5 out of5 by fromBest WIndows Yet - By a MileDon't believe all the negativity based on fanboy loyalism to fruit and robot themed gadgets, this is by far the best version of Windows yet. I loved Windows 7, but it seems so old and dated compared to Windows 8. Faster, more secure with a boatload of new features. Now I get the same experience on my Surface tablet, my Desktop PC and my Windows Phone. Highly recommended upgrade from Windows 7 or previous versions.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromI couldn't find anything.Ok, well it started out quite well, I was welcomed into the operating system by the usual bootup routine of 'beep', fans spinning up, and windows logo. Five minuets later, I arrived at the desktop, where, to my surprise, the Dock had melted down into an ingot thing filling up the bottom centimetre of my screen. None the less I proceeded to try and write a letter... Except for the fact that when I went to try and find the launchpad, It was absent from the melted down dock, meaning that there was no conceivable way for me to get to the Pages app. Un-deterred, I soldiered on, and created a new document using some proprietary text editing software by right clicking on the desktop, and selecting 'new text document'. Once I had written the document, I attempted to save it. After ten minutes of fumbling around to find the 'cmd' key to do the cmd+s shortcut, I gave up and used the file menu. Much to my shock, however, I could not see my hard drive. There was just some strange 'C:\' disk image or something; my HDD, called 'Macintosh HD', was nowhere to be seen. So instead I attempted to print the document. I attached my printer, but it was not automatically detected, so I tried to navigate to the webpage for the printers manufacturer, epson, however Safari was completely missing. I give up on this new operating system. I preferred the previous version, 10.10 Yosemite. I think this has gone really in the wrong direction. sorry x

Rated 5 out of5 by fromHaven't had this much fun since XP.Windows 8.1 rocks 100%. Best OS yet, hands down. So much to do, have fun and learn while your at it. Installed on my flash drive, booted right up, configured it and away we go. Love the idea of having a tiles desktop to sync with whatever you wish to do games, read or just amuse yourself.. Then when you want to work and get serious, you switch to the real desktop with just one click. Bam! back to windows 7 atmosphere. Dont understand all the complaining with other folks. Give it a chance it will grow on you.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromWindows 8 is GREAT!!!!I don't understand all the complaints about Windows 8. I personally enjoy using Windows 8. Yeah, it's a new Windows than what we're used to, but once you learn the new interface, it's pretty cool. I have a Surface Pro 2. Sometimes I use it as a tablet, and sometimes I dock it and use it as a desktop. Windows 8 is versatile enough to be used on a tablet and a desktop. That's why I like it.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromNo use for phone developmentI had a good core2duo laptop but it turned out i cannot use windows phone emulator since it doesn't support virtualization. Then spent a fortune and bought a laptop with Core i3 and Windows 8.1 64 bit only to find that Windows 8.1 PRO version is needed for emulators. Just wanted to shout and curse microsoft for making life difficult for developers. Why do i have to buy a PRO just to use the windows phone emulators. I had enough.... and now moving to android dev.
