Ratings and reviews

Rated 5 out of5 by fromPerfect for daily use / school workOwned this for 3 days and the gpu has very noticeably improved over the old core-m model. The CPU performance is not very different. the However the reason i returned the old one was that just basic scrolling through facebook was not smooth, it was horrible. On this version its perfect. In fact in bench marks slightly higher in 3d performances than my xps 13 with the i5-5200u. Now with that said you still cant game on it, not even close. I would recommend this computer for anyone that isnt using it to game or do anything that requires heavy computing power. Its snappy enough for daily browsing, school work...etc Has no problem or stutter running multiple 1080p videos at a time.Pros:- Very very fast hard drive, write speed is 4X as fast as the SSD on my XPS13- 1080p screen with better brightness than my XPS13, I found the xps13 to be a better quality screen but very dim- no fan which means its dead silent and you dont have to worry about getting dust or pet hair sucked into it- nice and quick for daily tasks like web browsing or office work- Battery life is greatCons:- Speakers are horrible, like really quiet...- No backlit keyboard. A this price there should be and its everyones complaint about this model and the model before it.- I find your finger is a little hard to drag across the track pad, its not smooth like the xps13 or the macbook. Getting used to it now but if you have a good quality track pad right next to it youll notice its not as comfortable to move your finger around.Overall I wanted a fanless computer and I am very happy with this one.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromGreat All-RounderI bought this laptop after using and exchanging 5 other disappointing units through Microsoft. I had almost given up, but because Microsoft's return and insurance policy is so stellar, I decided to stick it out with them and keep looking. After 30+ of research, I am convinced that I made the right decision - The ASUS UX305CA is the best thing around.Processor:The UX305CA has a slightly faster processor than it's predecessor (FA). Let me be clear: the Core M3 is more than capable of handling the workload of most users. Add an SSD and it is incredibly fast. If you're a student or a working professional using this for browsing, word-processing, and casual daily use, this is exactly what you want. If you want to play high-end games or intend to do intensive video editing, you should probably look elsewhere.I've observed that there's been a huge push for users to have the latest most powerful processors - few people have really stopped to think about the processing power they actually need. Bottom line, don't be fooled - do your research and think about what you'll really be using your unit for. You'll probably find like I did that this is a good machine for your uses.Keyboard & Trackpad:The CA model offers better key travel and experience (1.3mm vs 0.94mm) than the FA, and is for whatever reason cheaper while having better specs. The keyboard is surprisingly comfortable for a laptop this slim - a compromise on most other ultrabooks I've seen. I found typing quite pleasant. The delete key on the board is a bit of a mishap, but it's nothing you can't get used to. 'No Back-lit keyboard' seems to be everyone's annoyance - but truthfully, unless you're working in the dark, does it even matter? I didn't think so.The trackpad doesn't glide as nicely; actually one of the only things that bothered me about this unit, but you quickly adjust to it also. Wasn't a fan of the tiny feet at the back which prop the unit up a little - it certainly helps with cooling but makes the laptop slide around a bit on a flat surface.Sound & Display:The speakers aren't loud, but it didn't bother me as much. If your aim is an ultrabook with portability, there is generally some compromise here. People complaining about the quality of the speakers should modify their expectations. If you really care enough about sound, you would probably have invested in a proper sound system at home or some solid headphones. I don't really think laptop speakers should be the deal-breaker for anyone personally. Laptop speakers in general are not super quality, whatever you use. The Matte display was perfect for me - no screen glare or reflection and is actually much kinder on the eyes for those long work sessions.Connectivity:Great number of ports for a laptop this slim. Anything that's missing can easily be paired with a usb extension but the essentials are there in my opinion. Wireless seemed to work just fine for me.Battery Life:I actually found this quite impressive. You're unlikely to see a straight 10 hours but i think the average user is probably looking at upwards of 8 hours which is still the work-day. I will note too that charging is very quick, so if you do need to plug-in, you're ready to go soon again. Because the processor only sips power, you really benefit from longer battery life.Temperature & Usage:The processor also steps down the cooling requirements for the unit which gives you an astonishingly silent and comfortable use. No fans, no ugly grills, completely silent - this was a no-brainer for me.Microsoft: (Don't skip this part, it's important!)I didn't find a huge difference with the 'signature edition', but Microsoft's Warranty plan is a rock solid pairing for the price and what it covers. As mentioned, Microsoft's return policy is fantastic, and after the number of returns I did, I felt confident trusting them with my business again. Also, it's in the fine print but most people don't know or read it - IMPORTANT: if Microsoft drops its price on a unit within 30 days of your purchase, they will refund you the difference if you call support. This was a huge cost-savings for me, anxiously waiting for the right time to buy. They gave me back $150 in additional savings wow!!! Note: this does not apply to some holiday discounts. Conclusion:This is really a solid laptop for the price. It's unusual to find 256GB of SSD and 8GB RAM on a unit at this price. No, I take that back - it's an absolute steal. The UX305CA is rated as among the best ultrabooks of 2015 and it's not without reason. It's aluminium build looks premium despite what it costs, and I actually found that I quite liked the dull purple-ish obsidian stone color for a change. If you're looking for an attractive, silent, portable, and affordable unit, look no further - I really can't praise this enough. I would also really recommend reading online reviews and watching youtube videos online - I found that super useful. Hope this helps!

Rated 5 out of5 by fromRuns very coolBought this here during the boxing day sale, quick shipping and great customer service. Amazing screen on this unit, solid aluminum build and a great keyboard. Running Mint 17.3, touch screen and mouse pad still not working unfortunately but that's a Linux issue and not to be blamed on the laptop. Very nice to have a laptop that runs completely silent and doesn't get hot.
