Ratings and reviews

Rated 5 out of5 by fromPC Masterpiece, MS Store ExclusiveI put a good deal of research into finding the right All-in-One and this MS Signature Edition of the HP Envy 34C and this is the ONLY machine that fit the bill. My requirements were a combination of 6th Gen i7, SSD, Windows 10, HD screen, good sound and slick looks. This is that package. I cannot even order a machine with those specs on the manufacturer's Canadian of US market websites - but the MS Store Canada delivered the goods. On delivery, this massive flat-panel style shipping box is delivered to your door and the first thought was - my god, this thing is going to be too big! Unboxing it - yes it IS too big! I'll get to that shortly. My pre-order concerns with this system, based on customer feedback on other retailers websites, were: laggy Bluetooth keyboard, inadequate processor, over-hyped sound system, too large of screen. None of these points have been a concern and the machine has delivered high performance. Absolutely no lag with the keyboard. The i7 (not even available elsewhere in this unit, in Canada) is blazing fast especially with the 128GB SSD. There is plenty of storage and furthermore I don't see an issue with the HDD even if it is a 5400rpm device.Out of the box, I was rather unimpressed with the B&O sound system default set-up. It took me an entire week to find the audio equalizer on the operating system! When I got that set up to my liking - wow, it is impressive. Very nice sound quality, range, and power (volume) capability. I am using it as a home stereo in a 300 sq ft room and its very nice. You have to stop and remember this is a PC and not a home entertainment unit. But actually that IS what it delivers. The screen - wow, I am blown away. Very high quality QHD panel and its sooo big - watching movies or viewing large images is pure joy on this thing. Perfect if you are a Google Earth fan - combine the panel with the 3D satellite imagery and it immerses you. The screen is not "too big". Its just right. Lots of room for multitasking with multiple open windows - perfect for when working on a project. The curve is just right and does not strain your eyes. The store product page calls this unit a visual stunner. It is indeed that. Very nice build quality, elegant form, classy looks. The chrome stands are artwork. The unit pivots nice and with a firm, quality feel. This thing is gorgeous - it doesn't look like your typical PC and it fits into the décor or a nice room. Its just so impressive. When people are over they see this thing and they don't even realize its a PC.If I was slightly disappointed in anything...1. The 3D camera is slick and cool and has high end specs. But one of the sales pitches is that you can use hand gesture recognition for day to day uses by swiping pages, etc. Well there are apps for the camera use, but they are focused on kids games. There are one or two apps for specialized uses - video conferencing etc. But not for basic computer controls!! This is a let down especially when you are foregoing the touchscreen in the 34C series. One can only hope that new apps are not far off that will allow practical day to day interface for basic operations. One thing is does do well is facial recognition for automatic sign-in. Neat stuff.2. The onboard microphone doesn't seem to support Windows Cortana. I hope there's an application upgrade in the wings. Cortana seems more like a novelty much like Siri so its not a deal breaker for me.If I were Apple I'd be taking note - HP broke the PC mold with this offering. Side by side with Apple's best - the 34C is in a class all by itself. One week into ownership and I'm very pleased with this unit.Noteworthy points on the MS Store: I love the fact that Signature Edition PCs are bloatware-free; It seems impossible to get this anywhere else. Second - MS Store's premium warranty coverage costs a fraction of that 'popular electronics retailer' and is more comprehensive. Third - MS Education Store 10% discount is fantastic, thank you for making it easier for parents/teachers to buy computers that support education. Fourth - via the Air Miles Shop, I got Air Miles on this purchase. Fifth - no Provincial Sales Tax!!! Not sure how you pulled that off but on a purchase of this amount that is $200 in my pocket. Kudos to you guys! Its going to be very difficult for me to buy computer products anywhere else but the MS Store!
