Ratings and reviews

Rated 1 out of5 by fromIt's simple - it doesn't work! DON'T PURCHASE!We purchased 3 Surface Book and I purchased a Surface Pro 4 for my personal use. We purchased Surface Docks to go with the books. I purchased 1 for my office and 1 for my home office. They were purchased specifically to use with external montiors. In all cases, using all 3 Surface Books and the Surface Pro 4, the results are the same. The dock will not hold a connection to an external monitor. After as little as 2 minutes, the dock drops the connection and I am left working on the internal screen. We have monitors that connect with HDMI, Displayport and DVI. Nothing works. For the first month of ownership, the Surface Book Intel Graphics Driver would reset itself - dock wasn't even attached. So, until Microsoft gets its drivers/firmware sorted out, AVOID THIS PRODUCT. I'm going back to my DisplayPort USB dock.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromWorks as advertisedNeed dual monitor and it worked with display port cables. Set power plan to keep the surface book running when lid down and not on battery. Good overall desktop replacement. Some oddities around icon sizes when switching to dual monitors, still working on that

Rated 4 out of5 by fromConvenient and worksI added this to my Surface book having previously owned some other Surface's and their corresponding docking stations. This one worked out of the box except as others have stated, I too had monitor problems. It seems this dock does not play well with older monitors, but the solution is simple. I purchased an ACTIVE Display port to DVI adapter (active meaning it converts a newer signal to an older format for older monitors) and everything is now perfect! They do tell you this in the manual but who reads that right? I have found the USB and Ethernet ports to be reliable and overall am quite satisfied.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromBetter than nothing, but lots of bugsI've been using this with a Surface Pro 4 (SP), ethernet, external HDMI monitor, mouse, and an external hard drive for several months. So many strange things happen: HDMI monitor speakers don't work the same after SP hibernates, sometimes the SP won't wake up, sometimes the Office apps on the SP screen have text that is super small, etc. In short, it's buggy. Restarting the SP only fixes some of the problems. You have to power-cycle the Dock to clear the wonky behavior. As a cutting-edge tech user, you're going to be testing this hardware for Microsoft! You get to pay for this privilege, instead of the other way around.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromExtremely disappointedI bought this with my new MS Surface Book and it is a complete disappointment. The ethernet port stops working throughout the day. The video port drops out and the USB ports are unstable. From what I can learn from support forums, Microsoft knows about the problems but has not released fixes.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromwhere is my icaruspros:I love all the new features!usb is really impressive, how did they fit all that in there with a low weight power supply must have had some tricks up their sleevethe Ethernet means you can browse really fast !surprised they don't have hdmi but I guess displayport is the future and the future is nowaudio was a bonus!cons:there isn't any usb 3.0/3.1 uart! it's really nice for people who want to link their devices together!other:wish Microsoft would post their power supply specifications for real nerds... not many believe it but the power supply information is useful for maximum performance!

Rated 1 out of5 by fromHorrible dock for the priceCan't get dual monitors to work off the dock. One HDMI monitor works, the DVI monitor will not, I have to plug that monitor directly into the Surface(defeating the purpose of a dock...) The design of the dock is horrible as well. USB ports on the front and back? You know what happens when you need more then 2 USB ports? Cables going from both ends. Impossible to setup and neat fashion and out of the way, all of sudden the dock takes up a foot of desk space because USB cables are going in either direction.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromNice and useful, however...I got this dock for my Surface Pro 3 because I take it daily with me so I can do stuff on the train when commuting to work, so connecting/disconnecting several cables twice a day is a bit of a pain in the back (power, USB, display, audio, morning and night), I needed something simple and specially not wearing them out or damaging them.Configuration:Surface Pro 3, ASUS PB278Q monitor (DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI, VGA), keyboard, mouse, web cam, ethernet, additional USB 3.0 hub, external HDD and DVD R/W, and some other common devices.Pros:1) Dock size is good enough for all the ports it has.2) Easy to connect to the Tablet.3) Was able to use the Tablet screen plus two external monitors (3 screens total).4) Tested all ports even Ethernet, USB, etc and all worked for me as expected.5) High video resolution possible using DisplayPort cable connected to tablet or dock.Cons:1) Dock is heavier for the size and features it has and power adapter looks a bit too big. This might be an issue if you need to carry them often while working mobile.2) Video resolution with HDMI adapter connected to tablet is 2560x1440, but connected to dock is 1920x1080 max.Others:1) I read many reviews with issues about the monitor not turning on after Tablet being sleeping or hibernated. I did not find any of those issues.2) I also read many more reviews with issues when using DisplayPort, such as not stable images, losing video, flickering, etc. I also got this issue for hours, looked if I needed another adapter, considered returning the dock, etc. After hours updating dock firmware, system software and checking setups, I found the screen refresh rate for the monitor was at 59hz, so I changed to 60hz and I never experienced those issues again.
