Ratings and reviews

Rated 4 out of5 by fromGreat quality HP ProductMicrosoft has recently lent me this HP Elite x2 for review. I appreciate being able to use this loan unit but that has not influenced my opinion of the device or of Microsoft – this is my personal view and no 3rd party has influence directly or indirectly on my opinions. (this time with the other half of my review!) So after receiving this product, I must say the build quality was fantastic, solid metal framework, you wont be disappointed by the sturdiness of this thing, just a good quality build as the Microsoft surface or iPads. straight out of the box it was lighting fast boot up time, and flicking through multiple menus to get to system properties, applications , word docs, browsing online was all managed pretty well.I did notice some lag on graphically intense websites like facebook, with embedded video files, but I will mention this is the 4GB RAM model, same processor M5 MY54, so truth be told I would personally go for the bigger RAM size, as advertised on this product the 8GB, I'm sure its nothing the extra memory couldn't straighten out. the overall light weight package at no point compromises the feel of it being a full on laptop, so it really is handy to fold away, giving you a very lightweight portable device to pack away in a laptop bag or even just carry with you to the local coffee house. Im also conscious that people may look at these mobile processors, and ask 'is this worth it over the i3's/i5's etc, of similar product spec, and i would say, so far, yes, i mean with these mobile chips you get NO noise, and very very little heat, so that means 2 things, A) keep your lap from melting and B) reduce battery consumption massively, so i would think twice about jumping to the big boy processors with too much hasteThe touch pen is of solid build quality, and I didn't have a issue with the touch sensitivity, although this can be adjusted, its perfect straight out of the box. You can also just touch the screen with your finger, which , honestly, I prefer, although again, the pen can be used to hand write notes... pretty cool.Screen is clear as day, HD, and glossy finish with an essence of no expense spared about it. Although I would suggest the screen bezel is too thick, and could have easily been another 0.5 inch's, or 6mm ish smaller. The sound quality is okay, nothing I would write home about, but it is crisp, and is defiantly something of quality, as even on full volume, there is no distortion. The keys are firm, including volume controls, power, headphone jack (standard 3.5mm) power socket, which is proprietary to HP. Kensington lock port, and SIM card tray, for mobile data, also including a USB port, which admittedly could have been at least 2. the power supply is great, really small package, not bulky or frustrating to move about. The keyboard is back lit, which is a game changer as far as I'm concerned, having back lit keys helps SO much when typing in low lit conditions, and isn't too bright on the eyes when doing so, although this can be adjusted through 3 different settings on the shortcut keys.so all in all ? a great solidly built product, with very little downside , and huge upside potential to be quite honest, I've got to say, I wasn't bought into the whole 'portable device' laptop era until this landed at my front door, I'm more of a traditionalist and use a 15 inch almost desktop replacement, but honestly, this is the way forward.
