FAQs

Q: What sensors does Microsoft Band 2 have?

A: Microsoft Band 2 has sensors that help you track info about your activity level, UV exposure, location, heart rate, elevation, and more.

Continuous heart rate monitor
Your Microsoft Band 2 continuously monitors your heart rate during the day. See Track your heart rate for more info.

Accelerometer/Gyrometer
The accelerometer/gyrometer in your band detects motion. This info is used to calculate things like number of steps taken. For info on tracking these measurements, see track your calories burned, track your exercise, track your steps, and track your sleep.

GPS
When you turn GPS on during distance travel activities like running, or biking, it records your route, and collects info about the distance you’ve travelled. Sync your band with your phone, and you’ll find a map of your route in the Microsoft Health app. Use the Run Tile to start and stop GPS tracking for running, and the Bike tile when you ride.See using GPS mapping for more information.

Microphone
Use the built-in microphone to speak to Cortana, your personal digital assistant (available only on Windows Phone 8.1 update or later). The microphone is near the left side of the touchscreen. When Cortana’s enabled on your phone and band, just press and hold the action button then speak into the mic. See using Cortana for more info.

Ambient Light Sensor
Info from the ambient light sensor can be used to adjust the brightness of your touchscreen display automatically.

Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) sensors
The GSR sensor measures the conductivity of your skin between the GSR sensor under the clasp and the secondary GSR contact point under the face of your Microsoft Band 2. This tells your Microsoft Band 2 whether you’re wearing it, so it can adjust how it monitors your activities.

UV Monitor
Get a snapshot of the current UV level by tapping the UV Tile.

Barometer
Track your fitness with more precision with a built-in barometer that measures elevation changes while running, biking, or just climbing stairs.

Q: What is auto sleep tracking?

A: You can use Microsoft Band 2 to track how much and how well you’re sleeping.

Microsoft Band 2 tracks the length and quality of your sleep using biometric data like heart rate and motion. The Microsoft Health app and your Microsoft Health web dashboard use data collected by the band to calculate and help you analyze your sleep quality.

Q: What are Guided Workouts, and how do I know which is right for me?

A: Guided Workouts are workout routines you download to your Microsoft Band 2. Your band will tell you what exercise to do, and can track your reps and calories burned. They keep your workouts fresh and challenging with targeted workout plans designed by top fitness brands.

Choose a Guided Workout plan based on your fitness goals. Select the difficulty level, duration, and the focus area that’s right for you, and get a summary of your effort and progress.

Guided Workout videos show you how to do your exercises for maximum fitness benefit.

Ratings and reviews

Rated 4 out of5 by fromgreat, but some more issuesI bought this two weeks ago. Every now and then there is problems with showing notifications on band. I don't know is there a problem in windows mobile or band. Battery lifetime it's very short but I can live with that. But there is a lot of great features such as GPS and HR.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromComfortable and sleek.I've only had it a couple of weeks. So far excellent. I bought the Band 1 but after 3 replacements I gave it away. I seen the reviews on the band 2 and bought it. Much better fit and I think it is best featured of all the smart watches.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromGreat featurs for a good priceBought it six months ago, happy so far. No problems and I like the statistics I get when riding my bike (connected to Strava account). Bought it for the fitness stuff, but I use it as well for the messaging functionality. Very easy to see what kind of messages come in without getting my phone out of my pocket. Thought that this functionality was not functional, but I like it

Rated 5 out of5 by fromGreat productHi, I bought my Band 2 about 6 months ago, what can I say about it ? After 4 months the strap had a crack in it which was very efficiently exchanged under warranty. The week that I was without my band showed how much I had grown to value it as a daily tool, I use it for walking ( it has encouraged me to walk more) It is great for recording my bike rides, supper for alerting me to texts and emails and it even tells the time :) . I have my Band 2 paired with a Microsoft 950XL and am pleased with the performance. The Band has some great features, like monitoring your sleep patterns and efficiency. I really like the silent alarm as I no longer wake the house hold up with my clock but get awakened by a vibration on my wrist. I get about 2 days continuous use before needing re-charging. A really good purchase

Rated 5 out of5 by fromWorks Seamlessly with Windows Phone!Am using the Band 2 with my Lumia 640 LTE, and so far it is incredible, I can turn Microsoft Groove music on and off with it, can use Cortana, and can track fitness incredibly. Wakes you up every morning on the dot if you set an alarm (you keep it on your wrist overnight, and I recommend you charge it while you have a shower every day). The battery life lasts to around 48 hours, but for me it has lasted beyond this point and into a 3rd day occasionaly. Amazing device!
