Installation and FAQ

How do I install Office?

After purchase, you can install Office at www.office.com/myaccount. For more information, see the FAQ.

What's the difference between Office 365 plans and Office 2016 suites?

Office 365 plans include the complete suite of Office applications, plus other services that are enabled over the Internet, including extra cloud storage with OneDrive and Skype minutes for home use. With Office 365 you get the full, installed Office experience on PCs, Macs, tablets (including Windows, iPad, and Android) and smartphones. Office 365 plans are available as a monthly or annual subscription. With Office 365, upgrades are always included with your subscription.

Office 2016 suites, including Office Home & Student and Home & Business, include applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote; they are available as a one-time purchase for use on a single PC or Mac. The applications are not automatically updated; to get the latest version, you must purchase Office again when the new version becomes available.

Rated 3 out of5 by fromGood ProductI got this for a new system. I should have purchased the software outright but hope that the updates in the future will pay off. I miss some of the functions of the last Office. (ie. 1) In outlook while reading mail you could have up to 3 calendars on the menu to the right of the mail preview, you cannot now. 2)Notes I had in older contacts could not be updated unless I deleted the old contact and then added a new contact. 3) When converting Notes from older Office it lost parts of each note which required me to rebuild the individual notes from memory. Still getting use to the other new items but so far not too impressed with the updates.

Rated 3 out of5 by fromCan't use my own domain nameI've used Network Solutions POP mail for 15 years and finally decided to move to Office 365 Home. We only use 2 mailboxes so 365 Home is a good fit and the price is right. I have to admit I was really disappointed after making my purchase that I would not be able to point my own domain name to the Office 365 mail servers. I had to keep my Network Solutions POP mailboxes and forward email from Network Solutions to Office 365. That meant I could not eliminate the Network Solutions expense so I ended paying for 2 email solutions. So overall, the Office 365 solutions wasn't as cheap as the Microsoft sales literature would have you believe.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromGood Choice!I clung to my Office 2013 until I ran out of space on One Drive. In today's world, I find that I use OneDrive much more than I expected, and it is mostly about keeping my various devices synchronized. However, now that I have it, I plan to use it to protect all my important files.I thought I would be annoyed at the necessity of transitioning to a new version of Office, but it has been no problem. The subscription price was much less than expected, and the idea of staying current with Office upgrades all the time feels better every day. The jump to 2016 was utterly painless. I like having Publisher, too. I am glad I made this move.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromNot enough "Professional" FeaturesLove the fact that you can install for five users. Love the fact it is Cloud-based and allows install of Office on the desktop/laptop PCs. HATE the fact that you can't register your own domain against it. HATE the fact you don't get SharePoint to be able to create a "family" website, or Lync, or more of those features to enable "easy" sharing (such as those features available in the Small Business edition. PLEASE Microsoft, make the Home edition the same as the Small Business Edition (at the same price as the current "Home" edition. Would even consider a £110 a year sub for the features of Small Business Edition, if it was available for five users on one sub?

Rated 5 out of5 by fromUnbeatable offerI bought Office 365 a week ago and I'm totally happy with my decision. I installed it on my MacBook Pro, iPad, and Android phone (Nexus 4). Family members are next for the install. The 1TB cloud storage is perfect! Plus I can call to Eastern Europe and talk to friends for free 1 hour per month...sweet deal! Nothing beats this offer. I grew up using MS Office, so it is so convnient to have this across all platforms and it works seemlesly. I started using OneNote and actually thinking to quit Evernote Premium. Probably I will make the transition from google drive as well. I won't give up my Mac though, not just now. I might buy the Surface Pro 4, I'll see.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromLove Office365I have been a user off MS Office since it began and have always had a personal copy since 2001.Office365 is a great feature to add to the Office family. I haven't had any issues with using any of the applications online and then using the desktop versions or saving/using data stored in OneDrive.I love the added benefit of having more storage space on OneDrive because I use so many office applications. I have enough room to store Access databases, Excel Spreadsheets, Word Documents, PowerPoint Presentations and of course, I would be lost without OneNote or my Outlook calendar.I recommend anyone who is a heavy user of MSOffice to consider Office365. It has been a time-saver in so many ways.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromExcellent value - why wouldn't you?!I bought this for two reasons: 1) My wife and I were both running very low on our OneDrive storage space. With this product we both got an upgrade from 15GB to 1TB, and I can still invite three other family members/friends to share my subscription too. 2) I wanted to have the latest Office apps across multiple devices (Windows/OS X and IOS). There is a disappointing bit, which is that Microsoft Outlook 2016 for Mac OS X cannot sync with my Outlook.com contacts or calendar - it's just not possible. I opened support tickets with both Microsoft and Apple, but it can't be done. So I have stopped using Outlook, but will continue to use the other office apps.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromVERY DISSAPOINTING RESULTS!!!I am an above average Excel user.As I am working by my own, I acquired an Office 2016 package and my current Excel files are stalled, slow, broken down, and other failures that are bringing me crazy!I usually work with a selfmade Excel file with no Macros, Dynamic Tables or other heavy memory or resource demanding (size no more than 700 Kb) and for example to delete a row, it says that the instruction can not be performed due to lack of memory, reccomending an upgrade from 32 to 64 bits. Is it possible?, it never happened to me before!Yesterday the system itself performed an on line repair and things are going a little bit better. I hope I would not face the reported troubles again.
