Installation and FAQ

How do I install Office?

After purchase, you can install Office at www.office.com/myaccount. For more information, see the FAQ.

What's the difference between Office 365 plans and Office 2016 suites?

Office 365 plans include the complete suite of Office applications, plus other services that are enabled over the Internet, including extra cloud storage with OneDrive and Skype minutes for home use. With Office 365 you get the full, installed Office experience on PCs, Macs, tablets (including Windows, iPad, and Android) and smartphones. Office 365 plans are available as a monthly or annual subscription. With Office 365, upgrades are always included with your subscription.

Office 2016 suites, including Office Home & Student and Home & Business, include applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote; they are available as a one-time purchase for use on a single PC or Mac. The applications are not automatically updated; to get the latest version, you must purchase Office again when the new version becomes available.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromLoved It. Especially the 1TB of OneDrivePerfect couldn't ask for more. I love using it. It ties in perfectly with Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 Technical Preview.I managed to snag it, for 1 user with all of the apps as well as 1 Terabyte of OneDrive cloud storage. Honestly I couldn't have asked for more. The software is polished and beautiful. The *insert feature here* is amazing. The best deal yet.100% worth paying every month. The promise of future updates included free just reinforces that. With Microsoft Office 2016 set to be released in Q3/4 2015. I definitely won't be changing services any time soon. Even Google's free alternative apps are not worth it.OneDrive integration with

Rated 5 out of5 by fromHave used Word most of my life and love it!Word - just makes life easier. It accepts most documents you want to copy into it. You can create documents on the fly. They can be a combo of word and excel. Love the fonts and the choices of document templates. Love being able to copy from my notes on IPhone to a word doc and then be able to work on it on my PC.Excel - I'm a little rusty using this but you can't beat it for handling numbers. Love the multiple sheets concept.OneNote - love being able to jot down notes. Was a little confused that I was unable to copy using Ctrl-c and then paste into Word.PowerPoint - great tool for presentations especially for those of us who get tongue-tied.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromReally only needed WordI already had office on my computers but couldn't use it after some files disappeared. I wanted to reinstall my product but could not find it. I've had it quite awhile and loved it. I thought this was an inexpensive alternative rather than buying a whole new program. I do not like the new Word on this. I can't figure out how to print a simple envelope without going through a bunch of unnecessary hunting. I would prefer an older version. I find these new "improvements" a pain in the behind! I wish companies would stop "improving" things when the old version worked better than the newer version. I'm in the process of moving and if I find my proof of purchase, I'm going to reinstall it and trash this.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromExcel crashes with large spreadsheetsI purchased 365 a couple of months ago, and have found that Excel crashes with large spreadsheets. I teach classes with 400 students in them, and if I have more than one Excel sheet open when updating the sheets, say by entering data and using formulas like VLOOKUP, Excel crashes and I love my information. It's extremely frustrating. I'm having to buy the 2016 version in hopes that I won't have crashes every time I use Excel. To me, this was a wasted purchase - I will keep it on the computer I tend not to use Excel on, but my main computer will require something less crashy. I really hope that the 2016 version won't do this to me.

Rated 3 out of5 by fromOffice 365Only had this a couple of weeks having upgraded from 2007 version. By and large I like it but there are several very big nuisance features - frequently, when opening an existing file it will come into the 365 version as Read Only and this has to be cancelled before it can be worked on. Secondly, sometimes, clicking on an existing file will open the program but not the file itself, one has to copy and paste it in. Thirdly, the Save As feature is a right pain to work with. And calling the Save As a .pdf file feature as Export, took some finding. The whole program suite is not as intuitive to use as the previous versions. Stick with 2007, I would say if that is what you use now.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromMS Office 2016 - Wishy-washy displaysI bought this in Nov 2015. I find that the screen displays are much too wishy-washy. That is; there is too much white space. Columns and sections are not clearly defined. This is especially true on Outlook. Also The File section on Word, Excel etc. is much too cumbersome. I have the impression that a great deal of IT effort has been put into just making the package look different regardless of user needs. There may be a lot of good new stuff but I just can't get past the initial presentation. I have, therefore, cancelled my subscription renewal and reverted to using MS Office 2007 - much more straightforward.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromWHERE HAS EVERYTHING GONEI really do not enjoy this new Word. For example inserting a chart and drawing it---where has the eraser gone???? I do not appreciate the constant changing. That being said most of what I enjoyed using from word has been modified and changed. With so much in this world of constant change ie. updates, etc. Word was never changed so much I could not produce and complete my work at home. Now so much time has to be spent trying to learn NEW NEW NEW that I have very little time with my family and life in general----try talking to the average working Mom before you decide to make constant changes----better yet make a program that is simplified for Mom's!!!!

Rated 5 out of5 by fromOffice 365 for a single userI just got this, and even though I see some bad reviews, it seems the bad reviews are for MAC users. Once the purchase was made, the download email came quickly, about 45 minutes later. I just hit the download button, and the executable was quickly put into my download folder. I run it and it installs without any real need to monitor the process. It doesn't overlay older versions of MS Office (I have 2010 also installed) so I'm grateful for that. Now I have a complete MS Office suite, and it all works fine, with all the latest bells and whistles.
