Installation and FAQ

How do I install Office?

After purchase, you can install Office at www.office.com/myaccount. For more information, see the FAQ.

What's the difference between Office 365 plans and Office 2016 suites?

Office 365 plans include the complete suite of Office applications, plus other services that are enabled over the Internet, including extra cloud storage with OneDrive and Skype minutes for home use. With Office 365 you get the full, installed Office experience on PCs, Macs, tablets (including Windows, iPad, and Android) and smartphones. Office 365 plans are available as a monthly or annual subscription. With Office 365, upgrades are always included with your subscription.

Office 2016 suites, including Office Home & Student and Home & Business, include applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote; they are available as a one-time purchase for use on a single PC or Mac. The applications are not automatically updated; to get the latest version, you must purchase Office again when the new version becomes available.

Ratings and reviews

Rated 1 out of5 by fromA total waste of moneyThe software may look more like the Windows version but it has none of the functionality.. I have used Word for Mac and Windows since 1988 and all of Office since the 1990s, written macros etc. so I know it quite well. I am thinking of suing the reviewers of this software because they gave a totally false picture of it. I have archived it, never to be seen until it is upgraded properly. I'll keep on with Office 2011 for the Mac and Office 2010 on my virtual PC.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromShockingly poor productBought this a few days ago and am running it on a brand new iMac. It crashes from time to time and can be very slow. Excel crashed the first day I used it, and I've already experienced a number of frustrating bugs with table formatting in word. I'm not doing anything remotely complicated with it. I'm hoping it improves over time.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromExcellent Office SuiteI've used Microsoft Office on PCs and Macs for years and like the 2016 versions though would recommend 8Gb - 16Gb memory minimum for best user experience, though preferring the PC versions for completeness, the Mac version is much improved and Word Excel, Powerpoint are far better than the Mac AppStore store apps which constantly changing rendering many documents unusable. There have been no problems using the same files on both PCs and Macs though I do not write complex scripts in documents. Outlook 2016 is not included and had to buy that separately since the Mac email client is very frustrating and probably spend more time on email than any other documents!

Rated 1 out of5 by fromTerribleIncredibly slow. Lots of bugs. Excel is especially poor. I wish I hadn't bothered to upgrade as everything worked MUCH better on the older versions.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromFaultlessThough I would leave a review as the ones on here didn't reflect the experience I had. I've downloaded this twice now once on my iMac & once on my Mac book air, both downloads worked perfectly & office has operated faultlessly on both machines ever since. I find Apple office applications very frustrating so it was a pleasure to be working with Microsoft Office again.
