Ratings and reviews

Rated 1 out of5 by fromNot so good 2 months inI wish I could give this phone a better review but I can't. I own many MSFT products - Surface Pro, Band 2, Xbox - so I'm certainly not a MSFT basher. This phone has proven to be a disappointment. I understand this is an entry level phone, but it's slow for simple apps like text and email, the software is buggy (Cortana is constantly crashing), FM Tuner doesn't start half the time, and MSFT apps like Groove don't function properly and can't uninstall. It's one thing if third-party apps are the problem, but it's native MSFT apps which cause the most problems (which you would think would work great on a MSFT phone). I can't recommend the Lumia 550.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromAn Unexpected SurpriseI bought this phone to use for my second line and I was going to continue to use my iPhone for my line. After trying this phone out I love it. I'm using it for my line and will probably swap this to the second line once the 650 is available from the Microsoft Store. I'm actually really surprised how much I like Windows Phone and I just want to add the voice to text is way better than the iPhone. It even puts commas and question marks in place when you use it. And it's very very rare that it gets a word wrong.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromOverall, solid deviceI bought this device before Christmas, and overall, it's a great device. You have LTE speeds (supports all AT&T and T-Mobile bands; personally used it on T-mobile without any issues), it feels great in the hand, the screen looks great (just like the 640's screen, just without ClearBlack).Call quality was good, along with connectivity to WiFi and LTE.Cameras are pretty good actually. In daylight conditions, camera and video performance is good. In low light, the cameras need some time to adjust to not be as yellow. You can still video chat in low light, but the image is noisy looking (even though you can be seen at least). After setting it up, please update the device and install ALL of the app updates from the Store for the best experience. In short, this is a solid budget priced device that will do whatever you need it and want it to.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromA Great PhoneI had purchased this phone at the beginning of the year. I was at the Microsoft store during the holidays and wanted to replace my Android phone. I was somewhat skeptical that a phone in this price range would actually provide reliability for the price. I must say I extremely satisfied. The phone runs well. I use it with a Microsoft Band and it definitely delivers. The back camera generally works well, but at times has its limits. I must say three months later I am extremely happy with my purchase and would highly recommend the 550.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromWonderful phoneI bought this phone in January and it has proven more than capable for all task, and the batter life is quite impressive. I have an HTC 626s and I haven't used the phone in three months and I don't think ill use android ever again because I'm very happy with the lumia 550. I don't need a chromecast stick or continuum to use my phone on my TV screen just an hdmi to micro usb cord and a wireless keyboard and I have a computer.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromGreat phone for a great price!I bought the 550 as a replacement to for my last windows phone that had its screen shatter after falling onto a concrete floor (D'Oh!).The 550 has a nice feel and weight and the display is one of the best I've seen. The Windows 10 mobile OS is responsive and quite nice.Being a low cost phone, the processor is a little slower than I'm used to, but I don't play games on my phone so I don't really miss a faster processor. I use the device primarily as a phone, and the important factor is sound quality and ease of use, both of which are very good. The camera is 5MP, so the picture quality is good but not fantastic.A key selling point for me is that the Windows Phone integrates nicely with my desktop Windows 10 PC, OneDrive and Office 365. This all works extremely well and I love this feature!I highly recommend this for anyone who wants a good smart phone experience; it shows you don't have to pay a fortune for a great phone!

Rated 5 out of5 by fromFeatures Keep on Coming!Almost a month of ownership, and I am glad I made this purchase. The windows os took very little indoc; my home system "same-same". The ease of use is spoiling me; when I get a text and have my earpiece on...the unit asks me if I want it read to me. I was shocked but indeed happy. It is a learning curve from my old keyboard unit, but that issue dissolved almost immediately! If it was about a .5" less in length that would be great. Can't have it all, but this is real close. The office suite is a plus...really no complaints.
