Ratings and reviews

Rated 5 out of5 by fromBreeze to use!First time to use a type cover keyboard. Typing is very natural with the option to "incline" the cover a bit giving in the inclination I want in a keyboard. Those who don't want to incline and prefer the keyboard flat to the table can do so too.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromPure MagicI've been a Surface user for quite a while, and have used everything from the original touch keyboard, to the Type Cover 3 most recently, and finally to the Type Cover 4.Tactile Feel:First, let me say that the keyboards have never satisfied me on the Surface, and the touchpads even less so. It was a really terrible experience that has gotten better with each successive generation, but really never quite delivered a *great* laptop experience. I can, without hesitation, say that the Type Cover 4 solves this problem. The keys are wonderfully tactile, with a better feel than the new Macbook keys. Yes, better than the new Macbook keys, and about as good as the older generation chiclet-style keys. I'd venture to say that they have an even better response, but I generally like a very firm response from my keys, and this varies person by person. The touchpad is also an absolute joy, especially compared with previous versions. Gone is the flexible, plasticky touchpad, and in its place is a smooth, responsive, glass touchpad. It isn't the largest in the world, but does the job quite nicely and is nearly as good as a Macbook touchpad, by which most of us measure touchpad quality (And I do say almost, since it's still a bit smaller, and doesn't have quite the same firmness, owing to the base). The keyboard also feel structurally much more rigid, which solves some accuracy issues for me, as well as the awful problem with the Type Cover 3 where the touchpad would not be clickable because of body flex. This version is as close as I'd want to having a full laptop keyboard experience. The best part is that it retains the incredibly thin and light profile, AND works with the Surface Pro 3 flawlessly.Ergonomics & Layout:At last, the function key is not only on the left side, which works much better for me, but is togglable. This makes a huge difference in usability for me. It also comes with a standard "right click" button which, while almost always useless for me, there are times when I absolutely need one and wished my Type Cover 3 was more like a standard keyboard. The new trackpad size makes a world of difference, and as I've said before, the new trackpad is just worlds away from anything put on a surface before.Aesthetics & Build Quality:Like I mentioned before, the keyboard itself feels quite a bit more rigid, which helps tremendously with both the ergonomics while using it on your lap, as well as the overall feel of the product. Everything feels tightly built, and well put together. The colors are great this time around, if not much changed. They still feel bright and vibrant, and the new teal color really struck a chord with me. Can't say much else besides that I'm really digging it.Summary:If you own a Surface Pro 3, you really should get this if you can afford it, and ever use the keyboard. It makes it feel like an entirely new machine. So yes, it's definitely worth it.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromBeyond ExpectationThe fingerprint reader takes me from Lock Screen to Desktop in a heartbeat and was easy to set up. The touchpad begs for gesture usage . . . I haven't read the documentation but am reaping the productivity benefits already! As for the keyboard itself, quite simply, it is the best I have ever experienced. Ever. Using with my Surface Pro 3, a worthy upgrade.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromThe Surface is great, the type cover is awefulThis is a painful keyboard to use. The product bounces and sounds dead and hollow as you type. Key spaces are awkward and the trackpad is a pain to use - try clicking the right mouse key - good luck.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromThe Suede does not holdBad choice for the external part to be built with a suede. Over the course of two months, the part that connects to the Surface Pro 4 will start to worn out. I do like the functionality but am completely dissatisfied with the quality of the keyboard.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromErratic - phantom keystrokes on SP3I bought a red color type cover 4 for my SP3 less than a fortnight back with great expectations after seeing online reviews. It started on a great note, but then few days back when I switched it on I found phantom keystrokes showing up when V, B, N and M are being pressed....for example when N is pressed I'm getting '8n'. Disconnected / reconnected - didn't get rectified.....did a soft reset - didn't get rectified. Frustrated, started using old type cover 3. Y'day evening when I connected type cover 4 again just to check, no problems - worked like a charm. But today when I tried to work on the type cover 4, again same phantom keystrokes are showing up.......maybe Microsoft would be taking a look at this issue ! For me this issue alone makes it unusable for an otherwise great looking & performing (when worked) product......Don't know what rating to give because it's unusable for me.....given 1 star - otherwise would have given 4 stars for sure.
