Overview

Microsoft Wireless Desktop 900 Keyboard and mouse view

Wireless without worry

This slim and stylish mouse and keyboard are built for comfort. The keyboard actually helps protect your information with Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), which encrypts your keystrokes so you can go wireless while staying secure. Each keyboard is permanently paired with its receiver at the factory, so nothing is ever shared over the air. Combine that with an average battery life of two years, and you've got a wireless desktop that's perfect for using with your USB-enabled tablet, laptop, or PC.

Ratings and reviews

Rated 5 out of5 by fromQuietly elegantI work in close quarters with over a dozen people who were getting frustrated with my noisy wired keyboard that came with my Lenovo laptop. As my company forbids downloading unauthorized software, MS wireless devices were the only ones which would reliably work with my laptop. I tried the MS Wireless Desktop 3000, which though nice has a keyboard that is far from quiet, even with careful and gentle use.I came across the Wireless Desktop 900 this week while browsing the internet, and I wondered if the "chiclet-styled" keys would be as quiet as those on my laptop. I ordered it on Monday and received it by Wednesday lunchtime, and I have been using it ever since. The keyboard is handsomely minimalist, with a low profile and elegant matte black finish. It's low profile is welcome as my desk is small. Best of all, the keys are whisper quiet - finally a keyboard that operates as advertised. While made of plastic with a "no-nonsense" demeanour, it seems sufficiently robust for daily use. I think I'm onto a winner, and would recommend it without reservation.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromNice Keyboard and Mouse ComboInitially bought the glossy Microsoft 900 mouse separately and have really enjoyed it. I was told the 900 mouse also came in matte and, as that was my only real criticism of the glossy one, I had to try it out. The difference in price between the mouse by itself or this combo was marginal, so I opted for the combo. I'm glad I did. It's really nice having fewer wires at my desk, but any wireless keyboard will do that. This one has chiclet style keys, which I didn't think I'd like but do, and is really very quiet. They also have a decent layout so everything is spaced pretty well and located pretty much right where you'd expect it. It has a lower profile than I'm used to, but I've found it works well. The matte finish feels great on both the keyboard and the mouse and neither end up getting smudged much, it's a nice improvement over what I had.For the keyboard to connect when first plugged in, you have to press a few keys to wake it up, but once it's connected, it stays connected all day.A coupling things you might not like are the lack of backlighting or a caps lock light. I don't need either, so not a big deal for me. Without these constant lights, I'm sure the batteries last much longer.Glad I took a chance on this one, I plan to order a second set for home use.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromLoses Connection DailyThe keyboard and mouse lose connection to the dongle on a daily basis, sometimes even three times a day. I'm constantly having to move the dongle from being plugged into the Microsoft hub USB port to my laptop's USB port. It is a pain, to say the least, when you are working. The only two ways to fix are to move it from the hub to the laptop, or completely reboot your computer system. I would not recommend to anyone.
