Installation and FAQ

How do I install Office?

After purchase, you can install Office at www.office.com/myaccount. For more information, see the FAQ.

What's the difference between Office 365 plans and Office 2016 suites?

Office 365 plans include the complete suite of Office applications, plus other services that are enabled over the Internet, including extra cloud storage with OneDrive and Skype minutes for home use. With Office 365 you get the full, installed Office experience on PCs, Macs, tablets (including Windows, iPad, and Android) and smartphones. Office 365 plans are available as a monthly or annual subscription. With Office 365, upgrades are always included with your subscription.

Office 2016 suites, including Office Home & Student and Home & Business, include applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote; they are available as a one-time purchase for use on a single PC or Mac. The applications are not automatically updated; to get the latest version, you must purchase Office again when the new version becomes available.

Rated 3 out of5 by fromCan't use my own domain nameI've used Network Solutions POP mail for 15 years and finally decided to move to Office 365 Home. We only use 2 mailboxes so 365 Home is a good fit and the price is right. I have to admit I was really disappointed after making my purchase that I would not be able to point my own domain name to the Office 365 mail servers. I had to keep my Network Solutions POP mailboxes and forward email from Network Solutions to Office 365. That meant I could not eliminate the Network Solutions expense so I ended paying for 2 email solutions. So overall, the Office 365 solutions wasn't as cheap as the Microsoft sales literature would have you believe.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromGreat except UIIt's Office. What can you say other than it is light years head of the competition in features. That said, the new bright chrome-less UI is very hard on the eyes. My eyes feel far more fatigued after a day in Outlook and Excel 2013 than in 2010 or 2007. Additionally, it has no window borders so it sort of floats unencapsulated around your Windows desktop, making it difficult to tell if it's the activated Window or not. If you multitask a lot, it's really annoying. I wish Office would follow the Windows usability guidelines and stop reinventing the UI wheel. Windows' standard window borders, controls, titles are there for a reason. Use them.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromNOT a Happy Customer...have many concernsCall me "old school" but I would much rather pay for the program once and get some updates till a new one comes out. I don't need another monthly bill or another subscription renewal out of my checking account or/credit card. Plus there are bugs in this one...don't like nag pop ups for signing in, renewing, etc... So hate this new "cloud" mentality. I liked things physically on my backup hard drive. Not even sure this is so good for business either, as I think it makes us more vulnerable to attacks on the cloud and our systems. New isn't always better. This may work in a "perfect world" but we all know this world is so far from perfect it boggles the mind....

Rated 1 out of5 by fromAnnoyingly invasiveI tried out the 365 thinking I could switch back if I wanted to but after it installed itself it completely took over my Outlook and I couldn't get my old Outlook back. It is still on my computer but it won't function. So after trying for days to get rid of 365 and go back to my previous setup I had to pay for another month just to get my email working again. I tried again the next month but still couldn't restore my old Outlook. The new version of Outlook lost all of my notes about people and businesses that I had stored in Contacts like prescription numbers and account numbers... just gone! I would love to get rid of it so I don't have to keep paying $9.95 every month.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromAwesomeI have been an Office 365 Home edition subscriber for several months now and I'm very impressed with it.It runs on my Windows 7 PCs & my Android phone (v4.4.4). The cloud storage is extremely convenient. Having my documents available across the different platforms and maintaining their original layouts is a huge plus.I'm a heavy "Access" user and my one wish is that "Access" was available for the Windows RT 8.1 tablet I have. It will connect to a shared "Access" database from one of my other Windows 7 machines, but you can't create or edit any of the database code.I would have rated 5 stars if "Access" was available to my Windows RT tablet..

Rated 5 out of5 by fromMicrosoft Office 365 and OnedriveI have been using office 2010 and saving to Microsoft's Skydrive [now Onedrive] for years and I loved the concept, but it had quirks: like not saving my file after I made changes and clicked to close. All of that seems behind us now. I have been using the new combination of Onedrive and Office 365 for several months and it is much faster downloading and uploading, along with being much simpler to access, and I haven't had a single case of a file closing without asking me if I want to save. The yearly subscription is a big plus in that you can use it on 5 computers and that is the number I have so it is a genuine cost saving on top of the fine functionality

Rated 4 out of5 by fromGreat program. Reasonable price.I own a small computer service business and needed office on multiple PC's. I used to spend a fortune every few years for updated software. The low cost subscription is fantastic. I don't think I'm actually saving much money compared to how I used to buy it. But breaking the cost down to smaller annual payments is way better than one large payment every few years.Only complaint is that it does not really allow you to open/save files to any 3rd party cloud storage easily . The integration with one drive is great. But I have several files in Dropbox. It is awkward to navigate to my Dropbox folder.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromWorks very well.I purchased this about a month ago. I have only used the Word, Excel, and Outlook programs so far but they work very well. I have used Outlook exclusively since making the purchase and am extremely satisfied. This was an upgrade from Outlook 2007 and the transition was transparent. The transition to Word and Excel from my older versions was also a non-event. The ability to install it on other computers in my family makes it especially attractive.
