Installation and FAQ

How do I install Office?

After purchase, you can install Office at For more information, see the FAQ.

What's the difference between Office 365 plans and Office 2016 suites?

Office 365 plans include the complete suite of Office applications, plus other services that are enabled over the Internet, including extra cloud storage with OneDrive and Skype minutes for home use. With Office 365 you get the full, installed Office experience on PCs, Macs, tablets (including Windows, iPad, and Android) and smartphones. Office 365 plans are available as a monthly or annual subscription. With Office 365, upgrades are always included with your subscription.

Office 2016 suites, including Office Home & Student and Home & Business, include applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote; they are available as a one-time purchase for use on a single PC or Mac. The applications are not automatically updated; to get the latest version, you must purchase Office again when the new version becomes available.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromActivation is a mess.Product was very difficult to download and activate; It was difficult to locate the download location (Link in email from online purchase didn't work), Couldn't find any place to enter the product code and had to call support (1 hour on the phone) only to find that there were a half dozen other steps required to activate: Not made clear anywhere. Took my laptop over seas on vacation, started up Word and got an error that my product was not activated, nothing worked (Worked for a week prior to my trip). Contacted support when I got back and was told that my product is "regionalized" but not offered any clear solution as the "region" I travel to doesn't have a version of Office..

Rated 1 out of5 by fromlooks good, works bad. comically bad.looks better than office 2011. but it's buggy as heck. outlook crashes at least once a day while just running in the background. excel has dozens of weird and annoying bugs, frequently hangs and crashes. excel is also still single threaded and slow! word takes literally minutes to open (but is otherwise marginally less buggy).i've had it since the preview about a year ago and bought it cheap with the HUP program through work when it was available...and it's not really improved at all that i've noticed over that time. the outlook crashes are actually new in the past 6 weeks or so. really dumb bugs in excel persist. if you can avoid using office, you should.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromSo incredibly frustratedI love my Mac, but I am also heavily reliant on Microsoft programs to perform work. The simple fact is the 2016 Office Suite for Mac is wrought with bugs and lacking in significant functionality. Seldom does a day go by that Excel doesn't crash performing very simple calculations using no VBA/Macro. Our company's efficiency has suffered and our hands are tied until either Microsoft or Apple steps up and takes ownership of the fact the current iOS and the 2016 Suite of Microsoft Office products are not meeting customer expectations. Simply put, this product has been a terrible investment for our firm.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromAn update with serious bugsI updated my Mac OS and realized that my Outlook2011 no longer worked and for that reason I bought this new Office 2016 version. It works so I can now read my emails, BUT Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint all freezes on a very regular basis. It happens several times a day and I am surprised that MicroSoft will put their good name behind such a product. We are using Mircosofts CRM system, Dynamics, and when exporting an xls file from this program the new Excel2016 cannot open it!!! I can open it with the old Excel version (2011 that i luckily did not delete). Very disappointing. I would not recommend anyone to buy this package until MS have done some serious bug-fixing.

Rated 3 out of5 by fromHas been great version until recent updateStarted using MS Office suite for business again as soon as they came out with 2016 for Mac. At home I still prefer LibreOffice. Our business environment is Office 365. Has been stable with regular updates until the last version 15.15 which appeared specific to Mac OSX 10.11. Since then it crashes often. The latest frustration is that it started giving me a license error needing to be authorized. But it won't take our office 365 login credentials so I am left with a few days to solve this dilemma. While this Mac version functions well in an updated Office 365 PC business environment, the constant disconnect Microsoft has between personal and business 365 accounts is very frustrating.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromWorse Software Ever!Words cannot describe the frustration in using Microsoft Office 2016. These include:1. CONSTANT crashes2. Screen freeze in performing simple operations (copy & paste, scrolling)3. Error messages (worse is insufficient memory to display) for simple operations4. No feedback or updates from Microsoft on fixing problems5. Display issues (cant refresh screen properly) and multiple bugs (so many I wont bother to list)All in all, time lost on productivity plus having to pay for this wonderful experience. Alas as my clients use Office, I still need to use Office. All I can do is warn other MAC users to avoid this product (I would give this no star if possible)!Im running iMAC 5k with El Capitan.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromwhere to begin... the worst, do not buy.Had to upgrade to 2016 for work. This product is unusable. I work mostly in excel with medium size documents. There are so many bugs I can't list them all here, but here are some: The cursor does not show up correctly in the formula window, the scroll bars flicker and are completely unreliable, when hitting return when entering a value from another sheet the view will return to the original sheet in a totally random location usually a few hundred cells to the right of any information, scrolling when the format tab is open often causes the program to scroll to the AAAA column, the scroll wheel does not reliably control the scrolling, etc. etc. Honestly I could go on and on. This is literally the most buggy commercial program I have ever used. And it's excel. And it's 2016.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromMicrosoft lives up to their reputationI own a brand new 2015 Macbook and installed all of the office products. Loading normal spreadsheets without macros or anything suspect, Excel crashes 4-5 times for every two hours of use. Outlook stops responding several times a day, and Word starts reformatting my document right before crashing. I send my crash reports every time. Its embarrassing that Microsoft would release a product like this.Only reason I use this product is I'm forced to by its prevalence in the business community.
