Overview

Now with Xamarin

Visual Studio Professional now includes Xamarin features that extend, at no incremental cost, the out-of-the box mobile development experience. Xamarin apps are built with standard, native user interface controls, so apps not only look the way the end user expects, they behave that way too.

Visual Studio Professional user interface

Any app for any platform

Create applications for multiple devices, PCs, and the web—all powered by the cloud and built on top of your existing applications and skills. Cross-platform technologies help you create apps for Windows, Android, and iOS from a single development solution.

Visual Studio Professional CodeLens user interface

Understand your team code

Visual Studio Professional provides powerful features so you can quickly understand your code. CodeLens helps you stay focused on your work by showing code references and changes, displaying who last modified a method, or discovering whether tests are passing—all from right where you are in your code.

Ratings and reviews

Rated 4 out of5 by fromAwesome product!I had just bought this product today, and I am already coding a server/client model program with it, but sadly I am not seeing a big difference between this version and the community version in terms of look and feel and what I am able to do in Vsual Studio Professional as compared to the free version of Visual Studio Community. And for those who just want a great programming GUI IDE, that is free, then stick with Visual Studio Community, but if you just want to own this software then go ahead and buy it, it's well worth the cost..

Rated 5 out of5 by fromXamarin is a big plusI have worked on various IDEs like NetBeans, Eclipse, Android Studio and JetBrains IDEs but when it comes to developer productivity Visual Studio is an undisputed leader. The new addition of Xamarin make it the ultimate choice for developers to develop any type of application not just for Windows but also for Linux.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromGood But Could be BetterThere has been some improvements in 2015 compared to 2013, 2010 & 2005 versions, but I was not happy when the Installer projects,ReportView & Report builder options were not included by default. They did have them as a separate item, but it was nice to have them available by default like they where in VS2005. Other then that, there are a lot of great features that have been added, which is great when you are just getting into it, but if you have been the Visual Studio for .Net since the beginning, you tend to notice some handy features missing when you start to upgrade a program.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromPoor pricing, great productVisual Studio has always been the best development platform around and VS 2015 is one of the most significant upgrades yet. However, with no upgrade option, it's costly, especially as an individual developer, to buy the product every couple of years.Bottom line: 5 stars for the MS developers and -4 for MS sales.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromNo Upgrade from VS 2013This is a great product, but not providing an upgrade version for VS 2013 Pro users without MSDN like me is not nice.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromGreat features & functionalityI have been using Microsoft development products for over 20 years and upgraded to new technology when it warranted. VS 2015 is another leap ahead by the VS development team(s).

Rated 2 out of5 by fromCan't wait to use it!I have one major project from VS2013 written in c#. When I open it in VS2015 it converts but I get errors. I am forced to stay in VS2013 until I have time to troubleshoot VS. Disappointing.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromVisual Studio 2015 rocksI recently upgraded to a new Surface Pro from my XP machine. I purchased VS 2015 so I could continue to develop using the latest VS for new products that I needed to support. VS 2015 gives me the ability to build older platforms without ant hassle. I've been using the MSFT development products since VC2.0 I think that this was the easiest migration ever.
