What's the difference between Office 365 plans and Office 2016 suites?

Office 365 plans include the complete suite of Office applications, plus other services that are enabled over the Internet, including extra cloud storage with OneDrive and Skype minutes for home use. With Office 365 you get the full, installed Office experience on PCs, Macs, tablets (including Windows, iPad, and Android) and smartphones. Office 365 plans are available as a monthly or annual subscription. With Office 365, upgrades are always included with your subscription.

Office 2016 suites, including Office Home & Student and Home & Business, include applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote; they are available as a one-time purchase for use on a single PC or Mac. The applications are not automatically updated; to get the latest version, you must purchase Office again when the new version becomes available.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromVery disappointed ..I have a spreadsheet that I have been running for about 12 years now. I have upgraded my Office versions at least twice before. I just installed Office 2016 on a brand new pc with 16g of ram and two terabytes of disk on an i7 processor. The product crashes before I can finish the first 100 entry column. Not only does it lose the data in the column I was working on but it also loses the data in the previous column entered the previous day .. .even though it had been saved and closed! Driving me crazy. The only solution I have found is to save the file after every 25 entries or so. The only way I have found to avoid the crash.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromWord processor is unnecessarily complexGot a new computer that did not have word processing software so had to get the latest from Microsoft Office. The word processing software is compatible with my old files, but it seems unnecessarily complicated. There are more steps involved in things as basic as saving a file with a new name than with old software. The spell checker is harder to use and it is near impossible to find out how to turn off the automatic functions you don't want. The whole program looks like someone went out of their way to change things not so much to be better but to be 'different' and 'new'. Hoping that in a few months I'll get to where I can use it as well as its predecessor.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromExtremely unstableOffice became incredibly unstable with Office 2013 (They didn't allocate enough heap space and still don't in 2016 - This was never a problem in 2010) It should take (MS programmers who have been ignoring this issue) about 15 minutes to allocate more shared heap space and recompile but they don't. Seach the internet and you will find many references to this. A complicated spreadsheet overwhelms the system particularly when you have Word and Powerpoint and Outlook also open. It is poor programming, and would just take one manager a minute to stand up and tell their programmers to fix the issue, but they don't.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromFor the price, I would expect more. The names implies, this product is for students. While the suite comes with the many staples, such as Excel, Microsoft Word, and Powerpoint, I would like to argue that it is missing Access from it's bundle if it is indeed marketed to students. I am a student and bought this bundle thinking it would cover me for all of my projects for my courses. I am now taking a course that requires Access, and guess what? I don't have it after paying a large amount of money for this bundle that is marketed to students. Microsoft, please include Access in your future bundles that are marketed to students, it is still used in the classroom.

Rated 2 out of5 by fromNOT AN UPGRADEI just bought this. I am a grad student in social work and we utilize APA formatting. To have removed the option to identify double spaces between sentences is very problematic for me. I also do no appreciate removing the option to identify passive voice in sentences. It was EXTREMELY beneficial for my program and my work, and I am HIGHLY regretting purchasing this product. I also refuse to pay a subscription for office. I have always enjoyed using Office, but I do not appreciate being forced to pay a yearly fee to use a product that you could once simply purchase; thus why I purchased 2016 and not 365

Rated 3 out of5 by fromBad 1-click Install Process! Please warn me next time that the download and install process is all one, and that you won't ask me where I want the program installed, or have any prompts or questions for the user at all! I'm especially upset that I can't install it anywhere but the C drive- mine is already full enough but I have 1TB free on my E drive. I thought it would ask where to install after it finished downloading, but no! It just downloaded and installed all in one shot, then said "it's done!" Please give your users more credit- you don't actually need to remove basic steps to make the process "easier". I mean, really? Luckily I had enough room on my C drive for the install to succeed, but that was really stupidly annoying.

Rated 5 out of5 by fromOffice OptimusMicrosoft Office Home & Student 2016 has been the most optimal, efficient, and helpful Microsoft product I have purchased. Microsoft Word 2016 has so many features that help me as a published author, full time student, and Vice President of a Non-Profit. Microsoft Power Point 2016 is by far an upgrade from the version I was using. I have only skimmed the plethora of features in Office, but what I have used has been the best blend of functionality and aesthetics. Microsoft has really outdone themselves with Windows 10 and Windows Office 2016. I highly recommend getting this version of Office at one time fee if you are going to be long term student, and scholar.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromMost of the products usefulness has been removedI bought this product for the use of the grammar and style checking abilities. However it appears that Microsoft has done away with most of this capabilities including the passive voice checker which is necessary for any academic work. With out these features any free word editor can do most of the formatting that this program can do. This product is worthless. Attempting to return it now but the website seems to have me in some sort of loop of links to click on to return the item.
