Ratings and reviews

Rated 5 out of5 by fromIssues fixed after updateAs of Mid February, the dock is virtually perfect. I'm using a Visio 1080p external monitor and a dell keyboard and mouse. So at this point, it gets five stars, but before the Windows 10 and Surface Firmware updates in mid February, it was a bit of a nightmare. Premium devices need to be much better out of the box from day 1, and I hope MS is learning how to do that. While the Surface Pro 3 dock was a really nicely designed solution, this one is more flexible. Now that it's working right, I do agree with the change in form factor. I like that I can adjust the angle and even lay my Surface Pro 4 flat for writing without undocking it.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromDocking station nightmareWe have recently purchased a Surface Book with this docking station as a proof of concept to replace all devices in a department.Sadly the docking station has had multiple issues regarding external screens and flickering and has generally let the whole user experience down.We have the issue logged with Microsoft and have all the latest updates etc. but are still having problems. We thought we had managed to resolve everything and get the right mix of hardware that worked, only to send it to a branch office and the issue re-appear. It is so disappointing to embrace such a new product and be let down by a very poor quality, but essential peripheral.

Rated 4 out of5 by fromWorks well... happy to regain my desk spaceOnly 4 starts because of 1) friction in setting it up and 2) Mini Display Ports do not scale up to full resolution of the external monitors.1) If you just plug in the dock, Surface Pro 3 won't recognize it. LED starts blinking and SP3 will go on/off charging. After chatting with support, realized that I need to run Windows Update while connected to the dock. This installed a new firmware on SP3 and after a reboot, everything worked.2) Mini Display port doesn't scale the picture to full screen on my external monitor. Display resolution is bad. If I connect the same monitor to the MDP port on the SP3, it works fine. Maybe MSFT needs to update display drivers.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromExternal Screen Flickering with Surface Pro 4I have been battling screen flickering all week. Tried different cables, monitors, nothing solves it. The screen on the external monitors flickers and sometimes becomes very distorted on the edges whether I hook the monitors up through the surface dock or the mini display port on the side of the surface itself. I am using microsoft brand mini display to VGA connectors as well. Extremely frustrating to spend this amount of money on a dock and adapters all for not. I am using this for work and though sometimes the flickering isn't as bad as others it needs to work as advertised otherwise it is distraction and hurts productivity.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromWill not support two external monitors.I have the dock with two of the Microsoft Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters. I have connected my Surface Book and two work devices (Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4) to this dock and it will not support two monitors with any of these devices. The Surface screens will continuously turn on and off and if you have the display settings open you can see that is trying to negotiate the external monitor setup. At best, I can get one monitor to work and that takes more effort than it should. I have applied the November updates to all three devices. I have used four different HDMI cables and four different monitors. Hoping the December (or sooner) updates resolve the issue.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromGreat at FirstI purchased two surface books for work and two docks with them. At first both docks worked great. I had dual monitors hooked up to both docking stations. After about a month the screen flickering began. A month later the docking station will not even recognize the monitors. I plug the display port cable into the display port on the side of the surface book and both monitors are instantly recognized. Another drawback is, the plug for the dock is to large to work in conjunction with the display port on the side of the surface book. Until the issues with the monitors are fixed, I find it hard to recommend any of the new Microsoft products.

Rated 1 out of5 by fromMany glitches, especially with external monitorsSurface Book with Surface Dock: first one I had was hugely problematic with recognizing external monitors and USB devices. Replaced it at the Microsoft Store (excellent service) and now much better, but still can't recognize a new Dell external monitor after Sleep mode. I have to hard power reboot the dock (i.e. unplug it) to get it to recognize the external screen. You've got the makings of an amazing system here, Microsoft, but no matter how cool it is when it works, the continuous stream of little bugs like this really undermines it...

Rated 2 out of5 by fromMiniDisplayport doesn't workJust purchased to use with my Surface Pro 4. No issues with the USB or Ethernet ports, but the mini displayports are not working. I've got mini displayport to DVI cords, which work fine when plugged directly into the SP4, but don't do anything when plugged into the dock. Display settings shows the monitors, but nothing I do can get the video to display. I have updated the Firmware. I was hoping to have this dock in my two offices and home, and using my SP4 as my full-time and only computer, but at this point I can't.
